623487 2007-12-22 01:25:00 Hi all,

I have a Belkin F5D7230-4 wireless router. I have successfully set it up and I can share files and access the internet. However, on one particular PC sometimes I cannot access the internet until I reboot the router using it's web interface.

This problem does not occur on any of the other 3 PCs on the network. The problem PC is physically wired to the router.

What can I do? It's a pain to have to reboot the router for each session (ie each time the pc is booted).

Windows XP Home SP2

Thx

623488 2007-12-22 01:43:00 You can try giving the problem PC a static IP address, that way it forces the router to have that IP, instead of the router saying "you have this one" so to speak. By rebooting the router its possible its issuing a new IP. wainuitech (129)
623489 2007-12-22 07:59:00 I have a similar problem with a PC running XP Home. It is connected to a Netgear wired router with a number of other PCs also connected (varying numbers depending on who is home). Sometimes the XP machine will not connect to the web and requires a ipconfig /renew to get started - seemingly since another PC has grabbed it's address).

This seems illogical since the point of DHCP is to automatically deliver IP numbers - yet it seems to fail sometimes.

623490 2007-12-23 05:48:00 All PCs have a static IP address. I have enabled MAC address blocking, which only allows the 4 PCs at home to connect to the router. I'm not sure if this is the problem, but should I disable it? jwil1 (65)
623491 2007-12-23 06:05:00 If all the PC's have static Addresses, then MAC Address blocking "shouldn't" be causing a problem. You can always turn off the blocking and see if it fixes it - old case of suck it and see. As long as the securiy is turned on as per normal, either WEP or what ever, it should still be quite safe. wainuitech (129)
623492 2007-12-23 06:29:00 how do I create a static address? I'm pretty sure I've been having a similar problem... every time I start up it takes ages for this comp to register with the net. It's frustrating. Never used to happen at the old place. only since i've moved. Thebananamonkey (7741)
623493 2007-12-23 07:00:00 Just something that also comes to mind - could be completely wrong here, but you say you have 4 PC's all with static IP's, and MAC address filtering enabled for those PC's but have you included the MAC address for the Modem as well?

Try turning off the MAC address filtering.

What is your set up? is it Telstra Modem>Router>PC's ?

623495 2007-12-23 07:08:00 At the moment I've only got my laptop on a wireless network, but I'm about to add a wired desktop to that as soon as I can either get my ethernet card working or when I can get down to DSE and get a crappy cheap one. Using the same router as jwil1, I'm on telstra. Thebananamonkey (7741)
623496 2007-12-23 07:24:00 To set the IP to Static, first find out what your gateway is . I think with this Belkin, its 192 . 168 . 2 . 1 ( according to the Manual any way)
NOTE: All of the following is Assuming your gateway is as suggested here .

To check click start> Run> type in CMD >type in ipconfig in the black box . it will give you your current IP address, which should be 192 . 168 . 2 . ? . subnet 255 . 255 . 255 . 0 Gateway 192 . 168 . 2 . 1

To set your PC to static, Go to the Network Conenctions in the Control Panel, right click your connection> Properties>Select TCP/IP protocol> select Use "The Following IP Address .

In the IP Address type in 192 . 168 . 2 . (Pick a number between 2-255) may pay to use the one you got in IP Config .

Subnet Mask 255 . 255 . 255 . 0

Gate Way 192 . 168 . 2 . 1

DNS Servers 203 . 96 . 152 . 4 & 203 . 96 . 152 . 12

Click OK - Close, the LAN will reconnect to that and force the IP address for that PC . In your firewall you may have to open the addresses from 192 . 168 . 2 . 1 to 192 . 168 . 2 . 255 to allow all addresses through .
