| 623424 | 2007-12-21 11:55:00 | I get this and other similar "relay access denied" messages using Eudora where I do not know the smtp address of the server I am connecting to. Wi-Fi sites in airports are hopeless as no-one can / will help. Hotel staff look at you blankly when you ask... Two questions: 1) will setting up a 'personality' for outgoing mail which uses the connected server solve this problem. 2) in the absence of local IT help, is there any simple way for a non-techie to work out what the host smtp is? This is driving me crazy! Thanks for any and all advice |

The other option is if your ISP supports it is to set Eudora to use secure SMTP This will allow you to send through you normal ISP mail server regardless of which ISP you are connected to at the time. This is easy to do in OE Outlook or Thunderbird but may be a bit more difficult in Eudora depending on the version you are using. This site will give you an idea how to go about it. web.mit.edu The SMTP port is usually set to 465 instead of the normal 25 for Secure SSL and if this option is not available in Eudora try setting up Secure SMTP in OE or Thunderbird. Your ISP can give you more information about the correct settings and if they do in fact support Secure SMTP on their mail server. |
