1422285 2016-06-22 22:17:00 Overnight I received four identical 'invoice not paid' spam messages, all in impeccable english.

Tracking their source(s), they came from Tiran/Iran, Ourense/Spain, Mumbai/India and Da Nang/Vietnam.

They were good enough to get past an overworked clerk in some black hole in commerce, but unfortunately I deleted them without finding out what I had 'ordered' and how much I owed! Nor did

It's a bit of a worry when they get that good!

Cheers

1422286 2016-06-23 03:04:00 They're closing in on you. Wild guesses Spain & Iran, but then India, Vietnam...... soon Indonesia, Darwin, Sydney........ another five or six attempts until you get invoices from Auckland addresses!
And it's jolly good to hear that their English is impeccable it was worth all that effort bringing the empire together!

1422287 2016-06-23 03:24:00 Another two: Hanoi, Vietnam & Athens, Greece.

And their English iseems to be improving...........:D

Pity they never get through to my computer!

It does seem to be a new initiative, because there is a common thread throughout:

They are very polite, their english is perfect, and they do not identify their 'company name' referring only to their 'unpaid invoice'.

I was tempted to ask them when they will pay this invoice, but that might invite a hissy fit, so best they receive no response.

Cheers

1422288 2016-06-23 03:39:00 Have to be careful if it's an unpaid invoice. This is how some of the newer versions of ransomware install. Speedy Gonzales (78)
1422289 2016-06-23 04:14:00 Yea as Speedy said that is mainly how the crypto / ransomware viruses spread themselves.
I would be worried that my antivirus software didn't pick them up before they got to my Inbox.

1422290 2016-06-23 10:54:00 Last one for the day: Janice Reynolds (location: Delhi, India) has sent me a copy of a 'report' conveniently packaged in a zip file (how original!)

I'm not concerned about these attempts, I check everything in Mailwasher and I can preview the message plus any attachment formats. They are all deleted without downloading so they never get to my Inbox.

I don't know why more people don't take these simple precautions. This current onslaught may well be a crypto/ransomware exploit, but it never gets a chance to be downloaded to my computer.

Cheers

Billy 8-{) Yes Mailwasher is good. The amount of mails I get saying similar. I know what invoices are coming so any that aren't expected get dumped even before they come from the mail server. ANYTHING in a zipped file unless I KNOW its coming from a person who I have discussed on the phone or in person automatically gets dumped beforehand.
One that's doing the rounds I get at least twice a day is to authorize or a warning relating to my Paypal account activity. Not bad considering I don't even have a paypal account ;)

Perfect Timing :D Just checked my mail (moved the preview bar in mailwasher to show message)

1422292 2016-06-24 02:26:00 I just feel sad for the elderly and unknowledgable who get taken in by these low-lifes. :( Greg (193)
1422293 2016-06-24 03:15:00 I just feel sad for the elderly and unknowledgable who get taken in by these low-lifes. :( Yeah totally agree. Thats what these scum ( and thats being polite) work from.

Heres another from "westpac" as seen by mailwasher, the real address as to who its from ---- my account is locked out -- yeah sure it is ---- NOT

This is the type of thing Billy is referring to - you can see the real address, and its obvious its NOT from who they claim to be.

1422294 2016-06-25 06:24:00 For me, today's crop (all of which follow the same pattern) makes it clear that it is a concerted attempt to break through with a new scam, whatever it might be, and the payload is always a zip file.

Today I have had Claude in Bogata/Columbia, Delia Hopkins in Islamabad/Pakistan, Margarito Connor in Iran, and Pat Reilly, in Bueos Aires/Argentina (now that's a good Argentinian name for you, and guaranteed to have you leaping ahead to see what wonders his zip file will bring.........).

I have never before received so many scam emails in such a short period, the usual crop being about 2 or 3 a month.

Cheers
