| 1417865 | 2016-03-21 22:24:00 | If you read what has been reported both Key and Ambrose have agreed that each of them was acting in the honest belief that the views they expressed at the time were correct. They have also agreed that the matter is now over and that they will not continue with any action against each other. I was not there and neither were any of you. We only know what has been reported. 1. If the reporter thought he had a good case he would be still continuing to pursue it. He obviously no longer believes he can extract either cash or political advantage from the matter so he has dropped it in his own interests. 2. Key also is in a no win situation. If he carried on with the case he would just come across as a bully whether or not the courts agreed with him. 3. The costs are chicken feed now, to continue with the case would increase the costs enormously. 4. I do not care who pays. We got out of it quite cheaply. 5. It is rather naïve to expect any of our politicians of any party to pay out of their own pocket if they can avoid it, it just never happens. There is an election coming up next year so the KDS sufferers amongst you should be looking at working towards changing the government then rather than pursuing every petty little thing that crops up. On this particular issue I do not believe that middle New Zealanders could care less. |

I understand what you are saying abut "good men doing nothing" but I feel there is a core of " I hate John Key, regardless of what he does" here in NZ. Probably as a result of him being in so long. However, as I must ask, who is the alternative. I look at that humourless Droopy Draws, you know, the leader of the Labour Party and think to myself...."God help us" if he ever gets his hands on the purse strings. Winnie is just Winnie and he will start to wind us up using immigration as his platform. Not much substance in him. The Greens are a funny lot, and I mean "funny peculiar" not "funny ha ha" The Maori party ..... 'nuff said! So, come on, tell me who would do better. Ken :devil PS Have just posted this and seen Clive's post. Well put Sir!!!!! |

I would agree with you Clive if it wasnt for the Court Order, Key sought, to prevent the contents of the tape being revealed and the settlement being Confidential . If the whole thing is just a misunderstanding, then none of the above is necessary . |

| 1417868 | 2016-03-21 23:53:00 | If you read what has been reported both Key and Ambrose have agreed that each of them was acting in the honest belief that the views they expressed at the time were correct . They have also agreed that the matter is now over and that they will not continue with any action against each other . Is that not simply what there lawyers instructed them to agree on . I bet thats not what they think at all . If the recorder was just a mistake, all he had to do was erase the illegal recording , or hand it over to Key . Instead , the recording was given to the press . Does that show some motive & shed some light on if it was a mistake or not ? Its usually all just anti-JK beat ups, but this time I think its quite a bit more . Hes used public money to pay off private legal costs . Sure they are all on a rort, just gobbling up our money for there own interests , but the PM at least should be above the obvious rorts & ripp offs . Look at all the $ all MP's spent on overseas trips, usually to some great holiday destination for some bogus 'conference' . That would dwarf what JK has just grabbed for this one . |

Alas the world is short of statesmen at the moment, that doesn't alter the fact, that he is far from being one. |

| 1417870 | 2016-03-22 03:17:00 | It's our hard-earned money. --- on top of the $26m flag change issue. True, and word on the street says the original claim was $1.25M and the Court Filing fees alone were $38K, so we’re not talking chickenfeed. However, I have a solution. Shonkey gets himself a “Crowd Funding” web page and all his faithful can dig into their pockets with no cost to the rest of us. :) |

| 1417871 | 2016-03-22 04:15:00 | But now the pragmatic back-down.............. "Prime Minister John Key will not pay his "teapot tapes" settlement with public money, his office confirmed this afternoon. The settlement costs, which have not be disclosed, would be met by the National Party or by private contributions." www.nzherald.co.nz |
