| 1418173 | 2016-03-24 20:47:00 | My genius g/f put about a half cup of water into her car's power steering tank, her thinking it was the windscreen washer tank. I noticed what she was doing about 15 seconds after she started before I stopped her. So far there's been no side-affects, but can I expect any do you think? (thank blimmin goodness it wasn't into the brake fluid reservoir!) :eek: Memo to self: Never, ever let a woman under the bonnet of a vehicle... not even to top up coolant. |

After a while, it gets stirred around and emulsifies and that is no good either. Wow Greg, where did you find a girl that even lifts the bonnet? After 53 years of driving our car, SWMBO doesn't know where the bonnet or petrol tank pulls are. never cleaned it, checked the tyres....... I asked her once if she thought she should learn about what a car needs. She said "I know already... you just push down on that pedal and you hear a BRmmmm noise and it moves forward. The other pedal makes it stop" Quite quite sez I and gave up after that. Ken |

We immediately got a mechanic to drain and replace the power steering fluid. We were late leaving that morning - other than that no major problems. | Bobh (5192) | ||

| 1418178 | 2016-03-25 18:06:00 | Friends husband decided to do an oil change for her one day. Drained it, then topped up - thought it was odd it didn't take much. Off he went on the test drive - then the gearbox started to make horrible noises - as a result of him having drained that, not the sump. |

Usually this is caused by a leaky seal, evidenced by oil on the underside of the car and garage floor, in which case it will probably need fixing to get a Warrant and the whole job can be done as one. |

| 1418181 | 2016-03-25 20:33:00 | If the car has not been started since the addition of the water it will be only in the reservoir and most can be removed with either a siphon or pump bottle pump which most have around on a liquid soap bottle Just refill the reservoir and repeat,might still pay to do a complete change but you won't have the full amount of added water going through the power steering pump |

| 1418182 | 2016-03-26 01:04:00 | drain it all. any water in it will cause corrosion of pump and steering. with some designs theres a chance that water will make its way down to the pump on its own. its probably over due for an oil change anyway, not many people bother to change power steering oil until its way to late. |
