625220 2007-12-28 07:47:00 I'm wanting to use an old(er) IDE hard drive in a new PC which only has SATA connectors. Has anyone used one of those IDE to SATA converters (e.g. www.trademe.co.nz), and if so, what have your experiences with them been like? somebody (208)
625221 2007-12-29 01:53:00 Are you certain that there is no IDE connector?
I have an Asus M2N-MX SE with SATA hard & CD drives.
It also has one IDE socket which I used for a second CD which I already had.

In the past I fitted a PCI card which supplied IDE connectors. The reason I did this was because the Bios didn't support large drives. Maybe they are still available.

Absolutely certain - have read the user's manual online thoroughly (though the PC hasn't physically arrived yet).

625223 2007-12-29 04:10:00 I had a similar problem where I had a newer SATA hard drive but wanted to use it on an older motherboard which only had an IDE connector. I got a IDE - SATA converter off trademe, about $25? I think it worked, but I had other problems trying to install Win2k onto a partition that was greater than 132 GB (or whatever the BIOS limit is). Not sure if the converters are bi-directional (ie can convert from SATA to IDE and IDE to SATA). In the end it is better to do without them and use a hard drive with the appropriate connector. ledzep (1441)
625224 2007-12-29 04:34:00 Cheers ledzep. I've found a device which does what I want, and I basically don't have a choice at this point. My only other option is to buy an external USB case, and attach it that way - which I'd rather not do. somebody (208)
