625186 2007-12-28 05:44:00 I have A Best Data Fax Modem (HCF 56k modem). It is dialling out even though the phone line is in use. I thought it was supposed to check for a dial tone first. JaceKiwi (2561)
625187 2007-12-28 06:29:00 Dialing out - as in:

1) To the Internet OR
2) Readies itself into fax mode?

If it is 1), then the modem may have been accidentally configured to ignore "listen for dial tone first" before dialing to the respective ISP. In this case, it might help trying to fiddle around the settings of the modem (In XP, it is under Network Connections).

Cheers :)

625189 2007-12-29 20:34:00 When I'm sending fax's the modem dials out even though the phone line is in use. JaceKiwi (2561)
625190 2007-12-29 20:40:00 Wheres the fax??

Is it a standalone fax, or a program youre using (If you are, what program), with the fax modem??

If its a program, it may need configuring.

625191 2007-12-31 04:29:00 Don't know what you mean: I've already specified the card. The software is the Windows XP built in 'printer driver'. I used to use Winfax Pro but the version I have doesn't work on XP. JaceKiwi (2561)
625192 2007-12-31 05:19:00 Delete the fax printer then. Speedy Gonzales (78)
625193 2008-01-01 07:28:00 Then how am I suposed to send the fax's then? You're too fast for your thinking. JaceKiwi (2561)
625194 2008-01-01 07:45:00 The built in fax that windows has is not exactly the most reliable, it often wants to "take Over" or not work at all.

I have installed Mighty Fax (www.rkssoftware.com) Win XP Pro roughly 8 months ago - it works good. Free trial for 30 days so nothing to lose in trying it should you wish to.
I have broadband, but also a 56K modem installed, the phone lines connected to the modem and the fax uses that same line , if I'm on the phone the person sending the fax simply gets an engaged signal.

That's true. My solution has always been to install the fax driver when I need it, and to uninstall it once I am done.

Cheers :)
