624927 2007-12-27 07:46:00 Hi everyone, hope you are all got nice stuff from Santa and are enjoying some time off over Christmas to play with it all.
I got a Uniden GNS8350 in-car sat-nav thingy for Christmas and of course it comes with a software cd.
I have two problems:
1. The cd says it works with 98, 2k and XP windows. The only executable file on the whole disk brings up a message: MobileNavigator.exe is not a valid win32 application. So that doesn't work! (I am not quite sure what it is supposed to do anyway.)
2. The instructions say that I can plug the sd card into a pc and add mp3s & AVI files to the card and play them in the car. When I put the card in the pc it tells me that it needs to be formatted (this card has the mapping software and data on it so I don't think so!)

Has anyone out there got one of these things and can shed some light on this please. (the device actual seems to work although it must be sponsored by the oil companies cos it seems to want to take the longest route to anywhere :waughh: )

Cheers

624928 2007-12-27 08:26:00 I would ring or email Uniden NZ or Oz, wherever you are.

It'll probably be a faster way of getting an answer.

Sounds like its corrupt or something. Youre not running Nvidia firewalll on this pc are u?

624929 2007-12-27 10:23:00 As far as i know, that sat-nav runs windows CE, and that MobileNavigator.exe is actually the WinCE program that runs on the sat-nav unit.

Its on the cd, so you can put it on/back onto the SD card if something happens.

Note that if you take the SD card out, the navi menu option is disabled.

624930 2007-12-28 04:28:00 Thanx.
I did ring Uniden, but like me, they are away for a few weeks r&r. I've sent an email query to their service department so I'll wait and see. I think you are right about the files being for replacement on the sd card, but how do I put the files onto it if is formatted with this WinCE os. Is WinCE (sounds like a great acronym for a MS product :) ) available as a download or can it run in a virtual machine to do this? Why is life so damned difficult all the time - stuff should just work (but then we wouldn't need this forum and that would be sad :waughh: )

I have exactly the same problems with my GPS8350. Did anyone work out a fix?

624932 2008-03-05 04:56:00 The problem appears to be a faulty User Guide.

I couldn't figure out what use the CD was and was prompted to format the SD card when I loaded it on a Win XP PC. I wasn't prepared to format the SD card containing the mapping s/w.

I took another 1GB SD card, and copied the MobileNavigator directory from the CD to the SD card. The SD card created in this manner works fine.

I copied some jpg files to the SD card and these can be viewed on the GNS8350. Even put some in a sub directory and these were found also.

All of the waffle in the User Guide re updates and menus on the CD appear to be just that.

However, I have emailed Uniden for a response to the SD format issue.

624933 2008-04-22 08:21:00 I've also bought a Uniden 8360 - have the same issue, the other issue is when you do load the SD card with the Navigator software, the route you've programmed in should stay active with the via points etc until the routes is completed, regardless of the unit being turned on/off .

This does happen with the provided SD card but not if you use the software on a different SD card formatted under Windows??

I've too notified Uniden today of the issue and waiting a reply .

Any further information regarding this would be handy . Please PM me or leave details on this thread .

Searching the web, I believe it maybe possible to view the content of the SD card and manipulate the files using Pocket PC device/software . If some could confirm that too, would be nice .

cheers Doug .
