| 624781 | 2007-12-26 20:00:00 | Have won a free MOBO from NewEgg INC . , and they presented me with a few options, I can take a different route, but this is the list so far . Remember that I DO NOT GAME! 1) ASUS Crosshair w/AM2 socket that supports the AMD Athlon 64 X2, Athlon 64 FX, Athlon 64, and Sempron processors and 4 DIMM slots that will take up to 8GB of DDR2 800 memory this board . The 2 PCI-E x16 slots will handle 2 identical NVIDIA SLI capable 2x video cards at full x16 speed . Dual Gigabit LAN controllers support NVIDIA DualNet technology . 1000MHz Hyper Transport FSB, 2-PCI x16 Expansion slots, 1-PCI x4 Expansion slot . SATA 3GB's x6, PATA 1x ATA100 2 Dev . Max (whatever that means), SATA RAID 0/1/0+1/5 8-Channel SupremeFX Audio Card w/AMD Athlon 64 X2 ~~~~OR~~~~~~ 2) GIGABYTE GA-MA790FX-DS5, that supports AM2+/AM2 Phenom FX / Phenom / Athlon 64FX / Athlon 64X2 2600MHz Hyper Transport (5200 MT/s) North Bridge= AMD 790FX, South Bridge= AMD SB600 4x DDR2 1066, Max 16GB, Dual-channel supported, PCI Express 2 . 0x 16 =2x; PCI Express x1 = 3; PCI Slots =2 PATA 1 x ATA100 2 Dev . Max SATA 3GB's x6, SATA RAID = 0/1/0+1/JBOD NO Onboard video; Realtek ALC889A . 8-channel Audio . w/ AMD Phenom 9500 Agena 2 . 2ghZ Socket AM2+ 95w Quad-Core I kinda lean toward the last one . . but that means I have to buy a vid card . Is that Phenom 9500 a good processor? I wish I had been informed that my name was on a contest list . . . . . I don't need all this complication . |

But I'd go for the quad core myself, and they don't really specify which Athlon64 X2 you've won - could even be a 3600+. Quad core 9500 is worth more than even a 6400+, so if you don't need quad, sell it on eBay and get a cheaper X2. |

| 624787 | 2007-12-27 23:20:00 | Ooooooooooooooooh...my head is spinning....this isn't a P-III, 666MHz is it? Lol no..... I was just saying how AMD's 9500's performance is lower than Intel's Q6600. And I'm suggesting you take the second option - to get the Gigabyte motherboard coupled with the quad core AMD CPU, because with the first option, the motherboard is based on an older chipset (albeit still very good) and they don't specify which exact CPU they'll be giving you. I think all Athlon64 X2 CPUs are worth less than the quad core 9500. |
