624684 2007-12-26 09:40:00 Hi everybody!

Ok this is the problem I have. Yesterday I was carrying my laptop inside with other stuff under the arm, walking into the kitchen i triped over and as I went down droped my stuff and laptop, it must of hit hard as when i went to start up the hard drive made a bad noise and wouldnt boot, so I replaced it with a spare hard drive, the problem is i cant really get a picture on the screen....... if u look a little on the side u can just make out the background and icons. Iv tried brightness and been in the bios but everything else seems normal. I have a external monitor hooked up but what do you think happened to the scren when the laptop hit the ground? Do you think it can be repaired or a whole new screen? its worrying me as a whole new screen would cost a lot i would imagine. Maybe something disconnected inside the laptop reason why the screen is very faint? Any help on this would be appreciated.:help:

Thanks
Ghostbuster

My laptop is a Asus F3T series.

:horrified

624686 2007-12-26 10:02:00 Firstly , How old is your laptop? , you may be able to get some kind of accidental cover on it depending on the type of warrenty that you have.

It seems that the screen has been badly damaged in the fall, without you physically opening it up you won't be able to find out more, it could be just a cable - but this is highly unlikely.

It would be expensive to replace the screen...

624687 2007-12-26 10:07:00 Hi noone.

Thanks for your reply. Well its still fairly new. I got it in May, It has a 2 year warrenty on it. I don't think they would accept it under warrenty since I droped it , would they? maybe the best thing to do is take it to a repair shop, get them to have a look but no work on it untill I have a price. Good idea?

624688 2007-12-26 10:11:00 Hey... GhostBuster (where would Halloween be without you?)

Is the screen dim as well while booting up?

Perhaps some PressF1 member who lives near Pukekohe can take a look at your laptop?

Cheers :)

I know with Dell laptops if you have the right plan they would cover accidents in their warrenty - check with ASUS or the place you bought it from.

A general IT repair shop could only help you if the screen is not badly damaged ( ie , does not need to be replaced) , if it is then you would have to contact Asus directly to get them to replace the screen.

Also you might want to check with Asus reguarding how some 3rd party working on the laptop will affect its warrenty.

Thanks Noone. I never thought of that, about the warrenty, very good idea, I will give them a call since it's made by them , makes sense to go straight to them first and see what they say. Will keep you posted as to what they say and once its repaired if it can be repaired. I will ask them about a 3rd party working on it. thanks for that.
