| 624617 | 2007-12-26 02:33:00 | I've just acquired a new laptop with vista ultimate loaded onto it (which is bluetooth compatible). I also have a bluetooth compatible phone. I want to use my phone as a modem (I have setup my phone with my computer) but I cannot get my phone to connect to Clear net's phone no. when i use the network setup wizard (my phone starts dialing but suddenly disconnects). Could I get some information as to why this occurs:waughh: .. it would be much appreciated thanx. | rups284 (13214) | ||

| 624622 | 2007-12-26 09:10:00 | Hi In India here we have to contact our telephone service provider who sends the relevant settings on the phone which are saved. Than we try to see if we can run internet on the phone itself. If Yes than we load the phone software on the PC and try to get the phone recognised on the PC if YES than the phone is paired with the PC after pairing we see if the modem in the phone is recognised in the control panel than a dialer is created and we dial and connect. Hope this helps. Rgds |

| 624623 | 2007-12-26 20:32:00 | Have used my mobile as a modem for the laptop when we are away (cable rather than bluetooth but same principle). ihug have a different number to call if using cellphones rather than landlines. It is an (09) number rather than the free one. Your ISP may be the same. Be warned though - it is VERY expensive! Ihug have a small charge for dial up, the phone company have a large charge for data. Using it for 5 minutes a day for a couple of weeks to check email costs me about $20. There have been the odd reports (Fair Go, a guy in Alaska) who have had bills of literally tens of thousands of dollars for unwittingly using it for a month for everything. The guy in Alaska ran up a bill of over $100,000 for using it for a month for everything. For costs check out the Vodafone or Telecom site for broadband mobile data costs. www.telecom.co.nz Phones default to the Mobile Broadband casual rate of $8 per MB. Only a couple of the plans can use a mobile, the rest require a datacard. Vodafone costs are similar. |
