624486 2007-12-25 10:11:00 Dear all,
My family and I plan to move to an apartment in Auckland downtown next year. At the moment we are concern about the issue of transferring our existing telephone number to a new provider. In order to resolve this, I am planning to ditch Telecom and opt for Woosh for our broadband and telephone communication needs. The reason I go for Woosh is that it doesn't require a physical line to connect the telephone to a phone jack. And with that, I've got a few questions for those who are familiar with the modus operandi of Woosh:

1) Does Woosh demand a physical address from you in order to setup the phone and broadband? I am thinking of transferring the number first to Woosh, then choose an apartment as Woosh does not get tied up to a particular place.

2) Will the connection interference be of a greater significance in the city? (My head tells me yes)

3) Since I am going for phone + broadband plan, I am looking at buying option "2" equipment --> www.woosh.com What does it mean that it cost nothing to activate? Why is it possible that you can opt to pay "$99.00 for Activation Fee" (click Other Payment Options)?

4) How does Software Phone work?

Cheers :)

624487 2007-12-25 11:39:00 Good luck with the move downtown :)

I hate to spool your plain, but to what I have read here on PressF1, NZDSL & Geekzone & other NZ forums, I would suggest you stay away from Woosh.

As to what I have read on those forums, the customer service does not exist, speeds & coverage is not all that great.

If you do a search of PressF1, NZDSL & Geekzone (http://www.geekzone.co.nz ) you will find more about why I say stay away from them.

As far as I am aware, all ISP’s need a physical address for you to setup phone and broadband.

Hope this is of some help :)

Hope you had a nice Christmas!

624488 2007-12-25 19:19:00 I would have to agree with stu61204. Xnet have a new Naked DSL service coming out on Jan 7th. For $69.95 a month you get FS/FS internet, VFX phone
service. (with heaps of features). free local calling and cheap toll calls. Data
is at $1 per GB. (your phone data is free) You can port your current number
over to VFX .
Addresses are required for the Emergency services.

Their naked DSl plan is called Xnet Fusion. Due up on Jan 7th.

Why? I've done it.
Its no big deal at all.

I'd avoid Woosh if I were you.

624490 2007-12-25 20:42:00 Thanks for all the replies. As I have said earlier, Woosh is the only wireless way available in NZ though. I will reply to the above posts individually later on.

Cheers :)

(Right now I am making my timetable. Looks like on Wednesday I am having lectures and labs from 8am to 5pm with only an hour break)

624491 2007-12-25 20:52:00 Stay away from Woosh James. It's horrible, and you'll regret switching to it. somebody (208)

Cheers and thanks for all the replies anyway :)
