624855 2007-12-27 09:37:00 Thanks speedy, I have now been able to backup all her photos etc, When I said backup that’s what I meant - not an entire drive, like you said no point backing up viruses .

I also deleted the system volume information folder contents - that virus(s) could have been lurking in there .

I will do an online Trend Micro house call scan of her hdd tomorrow and give it another crack before I reinstall her os .

I tell ya, I work all day and have to come home to people dropping their comps off, especially relations, they expect me to fix it for them again and again for free . :groan: I just can't be stuffed any more . :groan:

This is the second time her hdd has been full of viruses, only this time they seem a lot more lethal .

Any who will keep you posted how I get on .

Thanks .

624856 2007-12-27 23:31:00 Was reading the PC World Mag and it said in reply to a letter to throw away this persons virus ridden Flash dirive- Can a virus cause Hardware damage?

I thought it was just software?

624857 2007-12-28 07:28:00 I can not seem to locate a recovery edition of XP on the hidden partition.

Can I use my XP home CD and use her CD key on the side of her computer? Would that work?

Thanks
