625788 2007-12-30 08:01:00 Does anyone know of a free application which has similar functionality, behaviour, and look-and-feel to the Vista Media Center software which is part of Vista Home Premium/Ultimate, which will work on Windows XP? I don't need the TV-tuning capability, but playback of video/audio/pictures is a must. somebody (208)
625789 2007-12-30 08:08:00 Try MediaPortal :) Its based loosely off the XBMC code (Brilliant stuff that is) which is based off MPlayer. Free too! I use it on my Media PC, works great.. Chilling_Silence (9)
625790 2007-12-30 08:14:00 Excellent - thanks Chill. Looks really promising - I'm going to try sticking XP on my Eee in the next few weeks, and want to try some sort of media-centre style app. somebody (208)

625792 2007-12-30 08:30:00 Just had a thorough look and it's very impressive. I suppose the next natural extension to that question, is to ask whether there's a Linux equivalent which will run on the Eee's default Xandros install? somebody (208)

625795 2007-12-30 11:27:00 I use Mediaportal at home.
I have a TV Server PC setup with two DVB-S cards and a PVR500MCE.
This allows other PCs on the network to watch live TV, recorded TV and view the EPG to schedule recordings.
Having two DVB-S cards means that every Freeview channel can be viewed at the same time.

I have also tried GB-PVR but didn't find it to be as user-friendly.
