625668 2007-12-29 18:26:00 Hello again :)

I woke up today to my laptop off and when I attempted to turn it on it went to the blue screen of death saying "iqrl_not_less_or_equal". I tried safe mode, previouse config, and i even tried to boot with the CD but when I get into the blue windows setup screen the computer hangs and stays when the setup starts loading the (Intel IDE Bus Drivers). It does not even get as far for me to reach the option screen :xmouth:. Anyone have any idea's or suggestions?

Thanks you

625669 2007-12-29 19:38:00 I would start with a memory test and a hard drive test.

Some laptop BIOSs have a hard drive test built in.

Memtest (www.memtest.org)

625670 2007-12-31 01:26:00 I tried, it passed the tests for the hard drive but I dont have a floppy drive on my laptop therefor I cant do the mem test. Anyone know why it wont pass that certain point in installation? unknown69 (12889)
625671 2007-12-31 01:39:00 You can do a Memtest from Cd, download memtest from my sig, its a Zipped ISO image, unzip it - that ISO is burnt to a CD, makes it bootable, if you need a Image Burner, one of those in my Sig as well.

If able, this may work- boot the PC as if going into safe mode, try "Safe Mode with command Prompt" if it loads the window OK, try doing a system restore back to when it was working OK.

Normally that message means there's a driver problem with some hardware.

Run System Restore in Command Prompt

1. Boot into Safe mode with Command Prompt – Keep Pressing F8 at start-up then with the arrow keys select Safe mode with Command prompt.

2. At the command prompt, type C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
Press Enter.

Follow the instructions given to perform the System Restore process.

625672 2007-12-31 09:19:00 I am not able to start it with safe mode's command promt either, so I am going to make a boot CD and hopefully get into ms-dos with it. Will I be able to run the C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe from DOS? unknown69 (12889)
625673 2007-12-31 18:51:00 Well i made it into DOS... but now for some reason it isn't reading my C: or E: drives (My two seperate partitions). Im befuddled :( unknown69 (12889)
625674 2007-12-31 19:30:00 Try pullinng one mem. chip out (If you have two).
I think it's a memory problem or a hardware failure.
Ground yourself while swapping memory as you can easily smoke it.

625675 2008-01-01 20:15:00 It sounds like a hard-drive failure. 'IRQ' issues relate to being able to communicate with a certain piece of hardware, and 'IDE' relates to a hard drive, or hard drive controller.

At best, the IDE controller is busted and will need replaced on the motherboard.
At worse, the hard drive is stuffed. You can buy a small USB adaptor that will let you remove the laptop hard drive and connect it to a desktop machine. I'd use that, in conjunction with a drive analysis tool, to try and extract what old data you can before it is completely busted.
