625502 2007-12-28 22:52:00 The other day, After 3 years of perfect operation, I went to push the power switch on my PC and it turned on for about 1 second (just long enough for the fans to kick on) before shutting off.

So, I turned everything off including the hard switch in the back of my case. After a few minutes I tried turning the computer on. This time the pc turned on as soon as I flipped the hard switch to "on" ( I didnt even turn the power switch in the front of the case on). The computer did the same thing and shut off after less than a second.

My initial response was that its got to be a bad power supply. I havent checked yet but I wanted someones opinion because my friend told me it could be a corrupt mobo since there is power going through.

Anybody ever heard of this problem? I have an MSI K89 neo platinum socket 754 mobo, Athlon 64 bit 2800+ cpu, 1 Gb RAM, and an Antec 350W Power supply. Thanks

There can be a variety of causes for this, and it is a matter of elimination. Firstly, can you detect a burnt smell coming from the power supply unit?

Testing the MB is harder......start with the easy bits first.

625505 2008-01-04 23:27:00 It may be a hardware problem so if you have a Floppy DD on your computer and access to another computer with a Floppy DD then you can download tufftest from <www.tufftest.com>. Download and put onto floppy then put into your broken computer and start it up. The free evaluation version scans most of your hardware but only 8mb of your RAM. The full version costing $10 scans all hardware and all of the ram. Hope this is helpful nzjab06 (101)
