625779 2007-12-30 08:00:00 Hi I have a problem with my NEC Laptop that I cannot find any one that seems to have had the same problem. Well not here anyway and windows Help files.
I shut my PC down because if I pressed Tab/Alt to change programs it was fluttering around and would not hold still. I am using Windows XP sp2 home edition.
Well after it restarted and windows came on I found I could not type my password in to start windows properly but if I used my other spare login that does not require a password windows started no problem, Until I tried to write or press any keys. So I thought another reboot may fix the problem. But the same thing again, I even tried to press f2 f8 but no keys would operate and also found out that the built in mouse pad did not work either, Luckily I have always preferred external mouse and that still worked via a USB connection. The other thing I found out was that I have an external numbers keypad which also plugs into a USB connection and when I pressed these keys it worked for my password but of course it was only numbers so could not open windows.
So I thought I would buy a new keyboard, which does work fine but now that I can get back into windows I went to device manager to see if anything showed up as not working but everything is working, I have also tried to remove the drivers for mouse operations and then reinstall and this has not worked either, strangely enough my built in mouse pad did move the cursor until it got to the windows password log on. Has anyone got any suggestions I would be most obliged as it has got me beaten.. Gordon

625780 2007-12-30 09:08:00 Hi Gordon
So are you unable to enter the bios?

625781 2007-12-30 17:45:00 There isn’t a “Function” key is there that turns off the Keyboard and Touchpad and swaps them to external by any chance?

I got caught with an Acer recently where the Fn+F3 (I think it was) turned off the touchpad and swapped it to external.

(I’m scarred for life, I’ll never get over it!) :D

625782 2007-12-30 19:06:00 Hi mate, I was able to get into the bios once but since that time if I press f2 it hangs on menu options Windows/Windows recovery and then I have to reset it and start again.

625783 2007-12-30 19:12:00 Yes there is a function key but that does not work either, all the keys are useless, but with an external keyboard plugged into the USB slot I am lucky enough to work with it. And having an external Mouse plugged into a USB slot works that too..

625784 2007-12-30 20:00:00 Well then the KB is dead. You can get another one for it.......not too hard to replace. pctek (84)
625785 2007-12-30 20:56:00 And does that mean the mouse pad is dead too.. Are they both connected somehow??

625786 2007-12-30 21:06:00 I seem to remember seeing a reset button underneath a laptop once and I think it may have been a NEC.

It was a little hole through which you could poke a straightened paper clip.

Don’t know it that would help or even if it has one.

Grasping at straws here. :D

625787 2007-12-31 01:38:00 I had a good look under its undercarriage but could not see any Hole to put a pin into, thanks anyway. I cant understand from a fresh reboot my Mouse sensor pad does come in contact with the cursor but as soon as I click to log on for my password it stops completely but the KB has died..
