2007-12-30 01:06:00 | Hi, I am new here and have a laptop problem. The issue is that I am just doing work, playing a game etc, when I all of a sudden hear this sound, move the mouse for a few seconds then the entire system freezes, after about 5mins, it works again, then it freezes again. When I turn the PC off, it just boots up like normal, I have had this problem for a few weeks. When it first started happening , I would boot up and the Laptop's screen would go black then it would say something like "Operating system not found". This does not happen anymore. The PC just freezes, then boots up like normal. Thanks in advance for the help, I really need this Laptop for Study! | Drenwick (13216) | |
2007-12-30 01:33:00 | Get hijackthis in my sig below. Put it in its own folder run it. Then click ob scan the system and saved a log. Copy and paste the log here. We'll see if you've picked something up Or whether its something else.

2007-12-30 02:03:00 | It sounds to me like the hard drive may be failing. I would do a backup of all important data ASAP! Then get a hard drive testing program - should be able to get one from the hard drive manufacturers website - and test the hard drive.

2007-12-30 05:58:00 | Right mouse on my computer on the desktop, then go to advanced tab / bottom option. Untick automatically restart. And go to control panel / admin tools / event viewer. Look under system and application for any ! or X entries.... Tell us what it says about the time this laptop crashes.

2007-12-30 07:50:00 | The issue is that I am just doing work, playing a game etc, when I all of a sudden hear this sound, Right, now that Speedys done the the malware. What noise exactly? Ticking sort of noise? Grinding? Clunking? All of which would indicate imminent hard drive death. What brand of drive is it? Seagate? Western Digital? The manufacturers have a test disk you can use to check the drive - although generally it won't tell you much apart from bad sectors. I would back up the drive NOW and if its still under warranty send it back without delay.
