626540 2008-01-02 01:16:00 I have recently upgraded from a computer running Windows ME to a new XP machine .

My old computer ran Publisher 97 , and one of my staff also put Publisher 98 on it .

I still have the original Publisher 97 CD , and loaded this program onto the new XP machine , however when I transfer across files , it says " Publisher does not recognize this version".

Is there a quick fix and/or will going to say Publisher 2007 fix this -- I understand it is supposed to be backwards compatible but no-one at 3 shops I have been to knows much about Publisher ( and even less about '97 ) .

Understandably , I don't want to fork out $100's and still have problems

626541 2008-01-02 01:29:00 A friend of mine had that - she had a newer version of Publisher on one PC and an older one on the other - and the older one wouldn't read the newer ones, so she opened them all again with the newest version and saved them as an older format.

If you can't do that getting a newer version will be fine. It doesn't even have to be the latest, Tradme might have a newer one than 97, but older than 2007 a lot cheaper.

626542 2008-01-02 03:33:00 Have you tried installing the program via the Compatibility Mode?

Cheers :)

626544 2008-01-02 09:26:00 It just simply means "to change the environment of the operating system to an older version of the Windows so that the program can be installed". In other words, you want to "fool" the program into thinking that the environment is "Windows ME", and therefore it would happily go on with the installation.

Of course, this is not a 100% guaranteed process (otherwise how do software companies cash in in the future?).

To do so, in XP: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Program Compatibility Wizard

Cheers and good luck :)
