| 626408 | 2008-01-01 05:35:00 | Hey there, just been handed my friends laptop to try and fix a problem his son has when trying to play age of empires 2. Everytime you open it it comes up with a message stating "Could not initialize graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw" i have updated all drivers and followed a few tips on the net, but cannot get it to work except when i disable the graphics card completely and windows runs on standard vga drivers. can anyone recommed a solution? thanks Specs are: Toshiba Satellite a200 series with radeon mobility graphics card |

| 626411 | 2008-01-01 07:04:00 | Upto date DirectX ?? you can try this - it may or may not have any effect - turn off hardware Acceleration . This site here Shows How (www.deskshare.com) - saves typing it out - Lazy eh! :D Note: this is assuming its XP Just noticed something as well, down the bottom left corner in the second picture "Enable write Combining", you can try unticking it. Its either going to work or not ? Note: Out of interest whats the OS - XP or Vista? and what is the exact model A200 -????? |

| 626412 | 2008-01-01 09:14:00 | ok got it sorted... not sure exactly how, but with the aid of compatability mode and using a mod tool to edit the driver installation package it now works. By using the mod tool, it adds the ati radeon editing menu, where as downloading the driver from toshiba did not install it. It is running Vista 32bit Home Premium. So it starts up now and goes into game play, but after 30 seconds it closes... argh more dramas and stumped again |
