Freezing problems when playing Railroad. Now computer refuses to shut down or restart. Used Taskmaster etc.
Computer runs as normal.
Some disk activity when Shutdown is activated, screen darkens but soon refreshes.

627626 2008-01-06 01:28:00 So it hangs on a program, when you go to shutdown??

Whats the program, that you have to end in Task Manager?

627627 2008-01-06 03:38:00 No program in Task master. It can be clean. Computer works perfectly, while this problem persists.
PC Systems who built the computer 1 month ago said the dual processor was at fault. Task master reports 0 use. And program graphics demand two processors, not one turned off as told to do.
Also blamed 2000, but Railroad does not run on Vista and XP is not available.
This problem was present from the start and I had to turn off at the wall with obvious consequences of the BLUE screen, in due course. A patch from Sid Meyers alleviated the problem somewhat.

627628 2008-01-06 04:26:00 XP is not available. ???
Tell them to make it available or fix the problem.

If it's only a matter of weeks old and they give you a system and expect you to fix it is not good customer service at all in my opinion

627629 2008-01-07 21:57:00 I got bold and pressed the button and she turned off. and rebooted OK.
Ok. I agree with your comment but please advice what to do now. Xp is available at D.Smith with strings attached. I can play the game Ok as long as I do it in short bursts. Any suggestions to take to the retailer.
Thanks

Yeah. They either install XP on it or refund you and you buy a PC from someone reputable and not dodgy like these idiots who put an old O/S on it and tell you you can't have XP.

And if it still plays up with XP, they start replacing your hardware too.

627631 2008-01-08 00:09:00 This is a common problem with win2k and M$ have made a fix for it that you can find here:
www.microsoft.com

Basicly the nvidia driver and a few others can trigger this issue.

627634 2008-01-08 01:44:00 Thanks all, but I wanted my 2000 as R.R. doesn't run on Vista and XP is no longer sold separately. This is a custom built computer. I didn't want to pay for heaps of pre-loaded crap as I already have everything I want.
But I will get the patch, thanks for your help.
