627430 2008-01-04 06:08:00  I use firefox, but I also use IE for one site I use, posting messages is better with IE on msn sites than firefox is. Soooooo ... IE keeps throwing up a message telling me the comp is slow, its doesnt appear to be .. then what purports to be Windows Security Centre pops up and tells me it has found 45 problems and I should download SWS Anti-spyware 2007 to repair it.

Im very dubious, I ran spybot, it found a few this morning, they all were healed, I put it through trend housecall yesterday, a couple .. all fixed .. ran hjt .. checked it through their checker, no worries. Ran AVG an hour ago .. clean as a whistle .. and still this comes up.

I have noticed .. for the last week or so .. a sudden flash .. like a page trying to pop in .. but not quite making it.

What say you all?? Am I infected :yuck::groan:
I trust you were all good lil boys and girls on New Years Eve!!

627431 2008-01-04 06:23:00 Sounds like rogue software.

See if rogueremover finds and removes it

See if its in add/remove programs and uninstall it

627432 2008-01-04 06:38:00 That message usually means there is spyware on the PC and they want you to purchase something to remove it - you know the story, download the trial it finds lots and pay us $$ to remove ---Yeah right.

Try spyware doctor ( Free) from my sig, its finding some items Spybot is missing.

There is anther as well that one of the other PressF1 members is using, ( sorry cant remember his/her name to give credit) but its locating quite a few that S & D is missing. Its called Superantispyware (http://www.superantispyware.com/) Free version works fine.
Ran SPybot today on a customers PC removed 100 odd, ran spyware doc, removed a further 40 , ran super and removed another 15.

Did a test Yesterday, scanned a test PC with webroots spysweeper & Spyware Doc - it was clean , installed Super, rescanned with above mentioned antispy to make sure super didn't have any spyware - all clean. - gotta check these thing you know.

I trust you were all good lil boys and girls on New Years Eve!!

627434 2008-01-04 07:14:00 I think this may be variant of the Smitfraud trojan
It is widespread going by a google search for SWS Antispyware 2007 and very very difficult to remove it seems.

One think that seems to have worked for some is AVG Anti-Rootkit
www.softpedia.com

I find Nod 32 does the job.

Then rebooted and only firefox open and up it comes again.

I too have googled and found many are asking for help on this one.

Now gonna check out the Antiroot kit from Cicero
