That Pic I put up was part of One of my Vendors Sites, Not available to the general Public, you need an account with the supplier to access it.
They are suppliers that have many different models, Vista and XP Pro and supply different places / businesses.

Generally the pricing for the Vista and XPP are he same. (Note PRO not Home)

As for pricing- depends on what you want. But as mentioned earlier on, XP is still available, you normally only have to ask the shop, and if they wont get it in or can supply what you want, then go some place that will. Don't believe them if they say XP is no longer available - It currently is.

What Speedy wrote is spot on - the drivers only make the hardware work, its just a case you have to hunt them down, BUT some of the hardware may not actually have XP drivers, or work with XP.

627065 2008-01-04 01:33:00 What other peripherals??

I doubt there's anything else to add, if its a laptop/notebook.

Why use the recovery cd/dvd, if it reinstalls Vista.

Thats probably why he didnt use them.

And as HP said, and what the HP site shows, there are SOME drivers for XP.

BUT you'll have to do a search in Google / go to the makers site, (for the other drivers, if theyre there), then download , and install them.

Peripherals like a camera, external hard drive or printer possibly.
Why then do most laptops have various ports like usb and network for example?

So I go off to the shop and ask for a laptop without any external ports. Has to be cheaper as I never have a need to connect a moniter, mouse, printer, camera HDD and etc ever. This means laptops can connect to a printer without a port possibly via wireless. I am not sure how I would connect a USB External hard drive to a laptop without ports.

Ok yeh i have the restore cds that i burnt off the laptop. Is vista. Not using them as i dont want vista.

I have now got 1/2 of the devices going but still have to find sound driver if there is one. and couple others.

going to go into noel leemings tomorrow and ask if thay have a xp version or can get any. if not will be returning.

I think Thay should still make the drivers for XP ask just about everone in the world has it and loves it. And it works not like vista that only runs sum programs and eats your ram. and hdd. Also I dont like the layout and sum of the menus. I will say there are a couple things i do like on it but not that much i would keep it.

think i will just build a 2nd pc to run hooked up to my file server. That way i can have xp pro and have no problems.

Going to look again tonight for the rest of the drivers.

So have you given up on the Laptop?
Put the second pc in your pocket and transport.
You may need a very long cable though.

627068 2008-01-04 01:46:00 :groan: Get real - the Laptop was built for VISTA not XP. Why should HP have to supply drivers for a system that they don't support? .

As pointed out in the reply email

Read what they said to him again:

"However, the systems configured with Windows Vista Business can be downgraded using genuine Windows XP. Therefore user will need to purchase the XP CD along with the driver from HP "

You know, some people have no idea they don't want Vista until they get their PC home and discover that fact.

I think HP sucks, the business people can downgrade but home users can get stuffed.

And Bluezone said he/she will not pay for drivers far less genuine WinXP.

I will not give advice unless I know beyond any doubt so I went for a little search. I am still awake by the way.

Um, you'll need to have downloaded all the XP drivers for the PC first, sound, LAN, graphics, mb chipset etc.

And made sure there are actully XP drivers available.

Which is what I said before - its sound advice, and its been mentioned time and time again - but not every one listens to good advice as you put.

Most The laptops I have seen that are available in both Vista and XP have XP PRO, as we all know many businesses wont change to Vista - and why should they, it can cost a lot of $$ to change a whole business - and if XP works then leave it alone.

Supply of Drivers - Most of the modern motherboards will turn their noses up at 98, I don't see to many people complain about the fact manufactures wont supply 98 drivers any more for new boards - yet lots of people still use 98.
XP drivers are the same - sooner or later components Software wont work with XP - manufactures call it Progress (debatable). I think I read someplace that DirectX10 is a bit "iffy" on XP?

Yes it sucks about drivers - business people may be willing to pay for XP. Some home users don't.
If you discover you don't like the OS - you take the product back and get another (XP) - you don't go pulling it apart find out it wont now work then complain. Thats going back to the comment which again is sensible advice - " make sure the drivers are available Before doing anything".

Yes he didn't check first. But HP say there are, they just won't provide them to the home user, just the Business user.

WHich sucks.
