| 627518 | 2008-01-05 22:51:00 | Can't you just plug it into a XP or Vista machine and use Disk Management to do it? Right click My Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management. support.microsoft.com |

Right click My Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management. support.microsoft.com I run W2K and don't have access to XP or Vista. Have you ever seen one of these drives pctek? I've been a technician more or less all my working life (over 4 decades) and I can fix almost anything electronic or electrical and a bit more besides, but I wouldn't try to take this enclosure apart and expect warranty cover after the event. I have no doubt that I can get it apart, but it may not go back together quite so easily and I probably couldn't hide the evidence. I'll try the software chill suggested, and late last night I chanced upon a free download for DiskDirectorSuite 9.0 as well so between those two I should be able to sort it. I won't be able to work on it again for a week or two due to work pressures, but I'll come back to this thread once I have succeeded (or otherwise, as the case may be!) Thanks to all for your advice and assistance. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 627520 | 2008-01-06 07:42:00 | Quick update: DiskDirectorSuite 9.0 doesn't do USB drives so that is out, and I took a look at gparted-livecd and couldn't understand a word of the instructions (sorry chill, linux is not my thing). I couldn't work out whether the download could be just run as-is or whether I needed to do all the stuff under live USB. I need a load-run-use program, so it looks like I could be forced to go commercial unless there is a freeware program that I haven't discovered yet. I've looked again, and I'm definitely NOT taking the disk out of its enclosure! Cheers Billy 8-{) |

Simple and costs nothing. |
