2008-01-03 10:21:00 | Yeh emailed them 2 days ago and got a email back this is it. Thank you for contacting HP Email support. My name is Neo and I will be assisting you regarding your HP/Compaq Notebook PC. I apologize for the delayed response and I equally understand the inconvenience caused to you by the same because we value your precious time and we are working constantly to provide technical support to all of our customers. From your email, we understand that you want to downgrade operating system of your Notebook PC. Mark, I need to inform you that the notebook has shipped with vista and all required drivers are available in HP website only for vista. If you are downgrading the operating system to XP then we will not be able to provide the drivers for XP as because of the drivers for XP are not available with us We deeply regret for the same. Also you will not be able to get the all features of the notebook with XP. If you are downgrading the OS then this will be at your own risk. However, the systems configured with Windows Vista Business can be downgraded using genuine Windows XP. Therefore user will need to purchase the XP CD along with the driver from HP If you need any other technical assistance with the same please feel free to get back to me with the below mentioned details, I will be more than happy to assist you further. 1. 10 or 12 digit alphanumeric Serial Number: (like CNF4340GVR or 7227JYHZ0167) of the notebook.2. 6 or 7 digit alphanumeric Product Number: (like Q2460A or DC577AV) of the notebook.3. | 627056 | 2008-01-03 20:26:00 | Get in touch with HP and demand support. They should make XP drivers for the laptop's components easily accessible.:groan: Get real - the Laptop was built for VISTA not XP. Why should HP have to supply drivers for a system that they don't support? Thats a bit like telling hardware manufactures that they still have to support 98. Ok They say if you downgrade to XP then you can call and they will supply XP drivers, but the system is produced to use Vista as default not XP, and Vista drivers are available - but no matter how much some people dislike Vista -its here and XP is on its way out. As pointed out in the reply email Also you will not be able to get the all features of the notebook with XP. If you are downgrading the OS then this will be at your own risk If you look at any of the posting here in F1 you will notice, it is advised to make sure you can get drivers time and time again BEFORE you install XP. As for the Audio - it says on the HP site it uses Conexant High-Definition Audio, the Vista one may work in XP - but you try at your own risk. Other wise you need to search for the Conexant High-Definition Audio version of XP, thats if its even made.? Then of course there are the other drivers that wont be available as pointed out in HPs reply.

2008-01-03 20:58:00 | I would say these are the Ethernet drivers (www.marvell.com) Its got the 88E8039 fast ethernet drivers info in it. Thats what the Ethernet/LAN is according to the HP site. And I would say the video drivers are: Mobile Intel 965 express, and Nvidia Geforce 8M series. And wireless: Intel Pro / Wireless drivers. This and the Intel 965 express drivers will be on the Intel site. This maybe 1/2 of the videocard drivers (www.intel.com) And the other somewhere here (www.nvidia.co.uk)

2008-01-03 21:17:00 | yeh thanks got that one before. and installed it ok. I havent got sound yet. Do you learn english at school? I find it quite difficult to comprehend your language. "yeh i no. its a pain. Way have sum and not all lol. Dont see he point." When you leave school I suggest you be a politician rather than fix computers. Heaps of money and you do not even have to be elected. Just join a party of your choice and get on the list. When installing a new O/S you have to make certain you have all drivers for the hardware you attach or intend to attach. You bought the laptop with disks from Noel Leeming. Try using the recovery disks / partitions. You got what you paid for. Install the O/S then motherboard drivers. Then add other pheriphals one at a time. You have posted a reply from HP. Could you post your original Email to HP?

2008-01-03 21:26:00 | What other peripherals?? I doubt there's anything else to add, if its a laptop/notebook. Why use the recovery cd/dvd, if it reinstalls Vista. Thats probably why he didnt use them. And as HP said, and what the HP site shows, there are SOME drivers for XP. BUT you'll have to do a search in Google / go to the makers site, (for the other drivers, if theyre there), then download , and install them.

2008-01-03 21:28:00 | What beats me is why people purchase Vista if they don't want it, then go through all the hassle of installing XP - most of the manufactures make Laptops in both Vista and XP. Heres an example (www.imagef1.net.nz) Exact same Laptop- in Vista and XP If the shop you look at doesn't have the XP version - Ask for it. If the shop can't or wont supply XP go somewhere that will.

2008-01-04 00:42:00 | wainuitech: What site is that off. you got a link? or cost for xp version Ok yeh i have the restore cds that i burnt off the laptop. Is vista. Not using them as i dont want vista. I have now got 1/2 of the devices going but still have to find sound driver if there is one. and couple others. going to go into noel leemings tomorrow and ask if thay have a xp version or can get any. if not will be returning. I think Thay should still make the drivers for XP ask just about everone in the world has it and loves it. And it works not like vista that only runs sum programs and eats your ram. and hdd. Also I dont like the layout and sum of the menus. I will say there are a couple things i do like on it but not that much i would keep it. think i will just build a 2nd pc to run hooked up to my file server. That way i can have xp pro and have no problems. Going to look again tonight for the rest of the drivers.

2008-01-04 00:51:00 | You'll be lucky to get a refund, now that you've formatted it and reinstalled XP . If HP dont have drivers for XP, Noel Leemings wont have them either . They sell it they didnt make the drivers or hardware for it . And the XP drivers DONT have to be for this laptop . Any other laptop or desktop that uses the same drivers would work as well .
