| 628573 | 2008-01-09 00:35:00 | Upgrading should leave existing Programs/files/settings etc in situ I believe, but I did a full 'C' Drive Backup using,Nero7,in case of "sod's law", & the chance of having to revert to XP Hm OS; or a fress Installation with XP Pro. I have 1x 80GB HDD partitioned Primary,& 1 Extended with 2 Logical Drives. Before I do the upgrade, I ask the following:- Will the backup of XP home load to XP Pro?(guy in shop said it wouldn't as they 2 different systems??)in the case of 'sod's law &/or a fresh install of XP Pro. Should a fresh install be the case, is a Low Level Format of HDD a good idea? After having evicted all sorts of lurgy, worms, virii & BackDoor salesman in the past,to find they've left behind them some spawn. A mate mentionrd the benefits of doing a LLF & the residue that can be left after The 'Delete/Reformat' HDD method. Dunno if it's true, but ........I do have some nasties that backed up themselves before being healed/quarantined by AV system. & in Sys.Restore -waiting opportunity to hatch,eh! I have the LLF tool for the HDD I have. Here goes. Upgrade here comes. :) |

| 628574 | 2008-01-09 00:37:00 | Well I wouldnt bother with installing, or slipstreaming SP3 RC. When SP3 does come out, (its not out yet), you'll have to uninstall it before you install SP3. |

| 628576 | 2008-01-09 17:07:00 | Yep. I'll agree with you there. Loaded to a spare HDD instead & there doesn't seem to be much difference. SP3? Someone's made a spelling mistake I think.Vista arrived before SP3 for XP. SP3!? come out, wherever you aren't. cheers  |

| 628579 | 2008-01-10 03:03:00 | drcspy: As I said, was told by guy in local com-shop that a Nero back up of XP Home won't load back to XP Pro as they two different systems. Wondered if that is correct or not. Personally I don;t see why it won't reinstall, however,I'm not doing it now. Cheers all the same. zqwerty: cheers, I might get it when it out.Thonk that the supposed SP3 on the XP+ Cheers.SP cd i have is a spelling error. |
