628479 2008-01-08 22:36:00 I have tried a damp rag to clean my laptop screen, but all it seems to do is smudge. Not as bad as it was, perhaps, but not very good.

What do you think that I should use to clean it?

Welcome your suggestions.

Thanks.:help: :help:

628480 2008-01-08 22:47:00 Isopropyl alcohol and water with a dry soft rag works well. Be careful to remove any big bits of dust from the screen (blowing it works well) otherwise you are likely to scratch the screen.

These (www.computerstore.co.nz) are good too.

Theres been plenty of threads on this before, do a search.

628481 2008-01-08 22:58:00 Any reason not to simply use meths? It's a lot cheaper. Erayd (23)
628482 2008-01-08 22:59:00 I guess not, meths would work fine as well... :p wratterus (105)

Wrong.

"Methylated spirit" is a nasty mixture of ethanol, methanol,
blue dye and pyridine. Do NOT use this.

Iso is isopropanol.

Paper towels and paper tissues should not be used because most of them will cause scratches.

628486 2008-01-08 23:24:00 "Methylated spirit" is a nasty mixture of ethanol, methanol, blue dye and pyridine. Do NOT use this.Would you be willing to explain this a little more? I'm curious as to what it would actually do - the only possible damage potential I can see is blue/purple dye remaining on the screen after cleaning, and realistically the concentration is so low it would be invisible. The alcohol should evaporate anyway, regardless of type. Erayd (23)
628487 2008-01-08 23:31:00 A lot of the so called "Special Cleaners" that some shops sell for big $$$ is simply a mixture of Isopropyl Alcohol and water a 50/50 mix, then use a soft cloth with the mixture on the cloth, not sprayed directly on the screen.

ISO is cheap - got a 500ml bottle from the chemist for $16.40.

Use it for cleaning cd/DVD's as well

628488 2008-01-08 23:36:00 I use a 50/50 mix of isopropanol and water. It is what most of the propriety screen cleaners are made with
I have seen meths used and it nearly always leaves a film once it has dried.
Be aware that some of the screen cleaning wipes where designed for CRT use and contain ammonia. Not at all good for plastic LDC screens.
