628284 2008-01-07 21:12:00 I've just upgraded my Xnet broadband plan to Flood, i.e. max upload/download. Now getting 2050 kb/sec download, but only 13okb upload, which is much the same as I had on the 256/128 plan.

Should I expect a better upload rate? Hoping to use a webcam with relatives overseas, but at that upload speed, it probably will not be much good.

628285 2008-01-07 22:39:00 Have a look at this thread here. (www.geekzone.co.nz) It may describe the problem that you're having?

I was on the Xnet FS/FS when I was up in Christchurch - occasionally when the router would connect, the upload sync speed would only be either 64kbps or 96kpbs rather than the 896kpbs for a FS upload connection. Restarting the router (sometimes it took a few times) fixed it. But on a FS upload, you can expect ~80-90KB/sec max.

What speed is your router connecting to the exchange at?

628286 2008-01-07 23:01:00 Stephen, thanks for your comments.

My router is connecting to the exchange at 7104kb/s down, and 160kb/s up. That upload looks bad, do you think? That has always been the speed shown, as long as I have had the router.

628287 2008-01-07 23:38:00 160kbps is usually what the router connects to the exchange at if you are on a 128k Upload plan (as you said you were previously on). Have you tried restarting the modem a few times to see if it connects at 896kbps?

If this fails, I'd give them a ring and explain whats going on and see what they say. One of the best ISP helpdesks in NZ.

Yes, I've noticed the 160 figure crops up quite a lot on forum postings of router performance. I still get that figure after switching the router (DSL-504T) off and on. By the way Stephen, my router (bought in NZ) still has the AU firmware in it. Should I change to the NZ firmware? Is there any difference?

I'll ring Xnet.

628289 2008-01-08 00:18:00 Xnet helpdesk said "Telecom may not have finished the plan change over, so give them a day or so, and see if anything changes"

Sounds unlikely, but I'll have to do that!

628290 2008-01-08 00:32:00 i've found that it often takes telecom a day or two to get their Ass into Gear and switch you to the full upload speed, as I think it requires a visit to your local exchange... Sherman (9181)

That could explain things, thanks.

628292 2008-01-08 03:12:00 What you'll probably find is that the first part of the plan change has been done (updating Xnet internal systems) but the change from Telecom does take an additional 24 hours or so. They're usually processed overnight when they're ordered.

If it's still not right tomorrow give the helpdesk another call and we'll get it looked at.

628293 2008-01-08 20:09:00 Telecom/Xnet have done their stuff, and I am now getting good upload (and download) speed. Thanks everyone. rumpty (2863)
