| 628281 | 2008-01-07 16:49:00 | I didn't read the whole thread but this is what you should do 1. right click your desktop and choose new \ shortcut 2. in the dialogue box type %windir%\System32\ping.exe domain.com -t -w 3000 3. right click the icon and choose properties change the icon if you like and replace the domain.com with something of your choosing. 4. double click the icon and look at the results. I use this to keep tabs on my moms computer for her and to keep her crappy dsl connection alive. in my case I ping my router at home once every four hours so that I can check the log and see what her ip is so that I can get into the router or remote desktop to her computer if need be. This is pretty much a fool proof method. if you are just using it as a simple keep alive you can set the option under properties to have it open minimized. This works on all windows XP and server 2000/2003 I haven't tryed it on vista but I would assume it should work there too however User Access Control may complain about it on vista. Hope that helps there really is no need for a batch file to do such a simple task. GreatDane |
