628455 2008-01-09 00:22:00 Try removing the RAM, start the PC - does it Beep indicating no RAM wainuitech (129)
628456 2008-01-09 00:26:00 There is no beep. In fact with HDD & DVD/CD disconnected, the only sound is the fans. Approx 3 second run time. I am familiar with its''beep and it definitely isnt beeping now.

I rechecked the CMOS jumpers and read the handbook to ensure it's correct.

Re: BIOS.... I can't get into bios as yet. It won't stay running for long enough to get there.

628457 2008-01-09 00:29:00 Things I have tried: Clearing CMOS with jumpers, battery test. Reseat ram, reposition ram in another slot. Disconnect HDD & DVD/CD. Checked for loose wiring.

What are my next diagnostic steps from here?

Try new RAM.

Then failing that, its the motherboard.

Identical result with ram stick removed. I notice it has maybe a missing brass segment where the pins connect. I havnt got another to compare it to, so am a bit puzzled. Looking at it from a magnifying glass doesnt tell anything..... could have always been like that?? Has such a thing been known to happen or can it be repaired?

...needle idicates missing contact....kinda looks like toothache!

Ok, well it looks like damage to the ram slot too. I see a pin missing and another bent. This appears to co-respond to the missing contact on the chip.

Question is: will/could these missing bits cause problems with shorting? Is it possible to simply remove the offending slot completely? Does it un-solder or what?
It has 4 slots: 2 yellow & 2 black.

628461 2008-01-09 04:42:00 Replace the ram, or if the slot is damaged as well, replace the mobo. Speedy Gonzales (78)
628462 2008-01-09 05:00:00 In theory, if I removed the slot completely and cleanly with de-soldering tool, will this end up with a satisfactory result where I won't have to buy a new mobo?

Am asking pure theory here....are the remaining slots usable in this case? and without major drawback?

628463 2008-01-09 05:07:00 I spose you can still use it but if a slot is damaged, and its got 4 slots.

You wont be able to use dual channel

Or use that simm thats broken.

You'll have to buy some more ram

Borrow some ram, and see if it'll work in the other slots. Soon find out if it matters
