| 629683 | 2008-01-12 07:40:00 | Hi there, I read somewhere there was a rumour of a third Service Pack coming out this year for XP? Does anyone have details as to whether this is correct? If so, do you know if it will be able to update from SP1? I'm thinking if it does, and isn't far away, it would probably be worth waiting, rather than install SP2 and then all the updates (altough I have Auto Patcher up to August 07 updates on CD). If it was on my PC, I'd still update straight away- but it's not (I'm fully up to date), and if an SP3 did an update of SP1 including all updates to now it would make life easier and quicker. |

| 629686 | 2008-01-12 08:05:00 | The RC version is already out www.microsoft.com But remember its RC, meaning still in testing stages, you can never be sure with MS and dates on final releases |

| 629687 | 2008-01-12 08:05:00 | It's due out sometime in the next few months. It can upgrade straight from SP1 without SP2. I've installed the RC version, and there is no noticable difference to normal WinXP, though apparently it's up to 10% faster. | somebody (208) | ||

It is currently an RC release so should be available within the next few months. See also Wikipedia's article on Windows XP SP3 (en.wikipedia.org). Edit: I should refresh pages left open before posting, huh. |

If you plan to reinstall XP at any stage in the future, you're best to get the offline installer and save a lot of pain when the time comes to reinstall XP. I'm sure it will be on a PCWorld CD/DVD shortly after it's released, so probably a non-issue for most. |

| 629692 | 2008-01-14 02:10:00 | Or, you could grab a copy of nLite, slipstream SP3 into your current XP CD, then if you have to ever re-install or format, all the updates are included already! Note that XP SP3 doesn't include IE7, but you can download that update and slipstream it into your CD as well, so you will have a fully patched IE7 as well. Or else it will only update IE6. |
