629645 2008-01-12 04:40:00 Hey
I bought a new laptop about 6 months ago, and it came preinstalled with Vista .

I was impressed at first, but eventually the bugs became too much for me, and I decided to do something about it . I reformatted my laptop, and installed XP Pro .

There was some problems at first getting the network card to work, but I managed that . My next problem is the Video adapter .

The laptop itself is a Hp Compaq Presario v6302AU, with a Geforce Go 6150 graphics card . I downloaded the drivers HP recomended, and when they didn't work, I tried laptopvideo2go . com . I got 4 different drivers that were assured to work on my video card .

They all had equal success- none . During installation, the computer would just switch off . Not shut down, but instantly go from powered-and-running to starting-up-again . The video drivers wouldn't work .

So, I tried installing them in Safe mode . That made problems worse- they installed, then asked me to reset the computer . I did so, and when it got to the logon screen it would switch it's self off again .

I've already had to reformat a second time, and I'm out of ideas here . Please, can someone help me out?!?

629646 2008-01-12 08:00:00 did you downloaded the graphic card driver from the Nvidia website? you might of installed the wrong driver. grahic (12930)
629647 2008-01-12 10:03:00 Nvida doesn't offer downloads for laptop drivers . Instead, us laptop users have to go to laptopvideo2go to download one which will work .

I got a working one no sweat when it had Vista . Even the one's I'm downloading now are for the correct OS (XP 32 bit) and specificlay say that they support my exact card .

This problem is killing me . I've got SP2 installed, and even tried installing DirectX 9 .

629648 2008-01-13 06:43:00 An update:
When I just had Xp Pro installed, when I'd finish installing the driver, the computer would restart without warning. Then it wouldn't start up again- when it got to the logon screen, it would restart.

I then tried installing SP2. This changed things slightly- the computer didn't restart. Instead, the screen went black. It stays switched on, but nothing happens.
