2008-01-12 02:16:00 | I am completely lost so please bare with me. I currently have a ASUS P5LD2 mother board with the following plugs in the mother board. PRI_IDE (blue) PRI_EIDE (red) SEC_EIDE (red) SATA1 (red) SATA2 (red) I also have... - EMPREX DVDRW Drive 16X - EMPREX DVD-ROM Drive - Western Digital SATA 160GB HDD --- QUESTION --- In the BIOS, it shows the following Primary IDE Master Primary IDE Slave Third IDE Master Third IDE Slave Fourth IDE Master Fourth IDE Slave Where is the Secondary IDE Master and Secondary IDE Slave? ----- PROBLEM ----- A few weeks ago I took apart my computer to clean and dust it out. After i plugged everything back, some things changed. --- BEFORE --- I had my DVDRW and DVD-ROM plugged into the SEC_EIDE (red) OR PRI_EIDE (red) and there were no problems but after i cleaned and plugged back in, when i start my computer a warning sign pops up in a black screen that says... Drive 0: Not Detected Drive 1: Not Detected Drive 2: DVDRW IDE 16X Drive 3: DVD-ROM BDV3166 Warning!! An Ultra ATA/66 (or faster) drive is connected with a 40-pin IDE cable on the secondary channel. Drive speed is downgraded to Ultra ATA/33 mode. And the BIOS looked like this Primary IDE Master : [Not Detected] Primary IDE Slave : [Not Detected] Third IDE Master : [WDC WD1600JS-00MHB] Third IDE Slave : [Not Detected] Fourth IDE Master: [Not Detected] Fourth IDE Slave: [Not Detected] And Boot Device Priority looked like this 1st Boot Device [1st FLOPPY DRIVE] 2nd Boot Device [3M-WDC WD1600JS-00] 3rd Boot Device [ATAPI CD-ROM] 4th Boot Device [DVDRW IDE 16X] 5th Boot Device [DVD-ROM BDV316G] (they were all on default) --- AFTER --- After that, the DVDRW and DVD-ROM cable that was connected to the SEC_EIDE (red) i tried some stuff and ended up moving it to the PRI_IDE (blue) and the black screen changed to this. Drive 0: Not Detected Drive 1: Not Detected Drive 2: Not Detected Drive 3: Not Detected The warning sign went away but now the Drive 2 and 3 doesn't show the DVDRW and DVD-ROM drives? And the BIOS changed to this Primary IDE Master : [DVDRW IDE 16X] Primary IDE Slave : [DVD-ROM BDV316G] Third IDE Master : [WDC WD1600JS-00MHB] Third IDE Slave : [Not Detected] Fourth IDE Master : [Not Detected] Fourth IDE Slave : [Not Detected] And Boot Device Priority changed to this 1st Boot Device [1st FLOPPY DRIVE] 2nd Boot Device [3M-WDC WD1600JS-00] 3rd Boot Device [PM-DVDRW IDE 16x] Can someone tell me what to do? Where to change my plugs around and can someone also match the plugs with the BIOS please? Match these... PRI_IDE (blue) PRI_EIDE (red) SEC_EIDE (red) SATA1 (red) SATA2 (red) Match those to... Primary IDE Master Primary IDE Slave Third IDE Master Third IDE Slave Fourth IDE Master Fourth IDE Slave Which one goes to which one? I know it's a bunch of questions at once but I'm sure they are linked. Still don't know where the Secondary IDE Master/Slave is either..

2008-01-12 02:31:00 | Welcome to PressF1. It looks as if you haven't got a secondary IDE port. That would explain why the BIOS can't find it. ;)

2008-01-12 03:36:00 | Have a look at a manual. It has a "normal" Primary IDE, but then also has additional two IDE connectors that are an additional (ITE8211) IDE controller - you can't use optical drives on these. | gibler (49) | |

If you don't have the manual you should be able to download it from the Asus website see below manualnguide.com |

2008-01-12 11:50:00 | Put the optical drives on the Primary IDE socket with a 80 wire cable; the two EIDE sockets are only for Raid-configured HDDs (which you dont have), not ATAPI devices (DVD/CD burners) so when you said this: After that, the DVDRW and DVD-ROM cable that was connected to the SEC_EIDE (red) i tried some stuff and ended up moving it to the PRI_IDE (blue) and the black screen changed to this. Drive 0: Not Detected Drive 1: Not Detected Drive 2: Not Detected Drive 3: Not Detected The warning sign went away but now the Drive 2 and 3 doesn't show the DVDRW and DVD-ROM drives? it was correct as the optical drives were not plugged into the RAID sockets (0,1,2,3), and this is right too: And the BIOS changed to this Primary IDE Master : [DVDRW IDE 16X] Primary IDE Slave : [DVD-ROM BDV316G] but you want your SATA hard drive plugged into SATA 1 on the motherboard because this is incorrect: Third IDE Master : [WDC WD1600JS-00MHB] Third IDE Slave : [Not Detected] Fourth IDE Master : [Not Detected] Fourth IDE Slave : [Not Detected] should say First IDE master : [WDC WD1blah blah blah] as they are talking about the SATA sockets here. And you dont have a secondary IDE socket/master/slave on that board! (Chaps, its all very well telling him to RTFM, but decyphering his confusion is what he wanted :) )
