629270 2008-01-10 22:26:00 I installed vista sp1 RC last night and when it restarted the laptop wont start windows vista home premium and gives the error message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Technical Info:

Stop 0x0000007B (0x82c03ba0, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I am able to get in to the repair program but all attempts to do a system repair and system restore make no difference, i even tried using the complete restore from a back up but it can't find the back up i have on my external had drive. There are no option to set back to factory settings.

How do i set it back to factory settings? or fix this problem as i don't have the cd to install it again(it cam withy computer). i have a back up of all my files on an external hard drive, so it dosn't matter if every thing needs to be wiped.

So how did you install it in the first place if you don't have the CD?

629272 2008-01-10 23:11:00 As i said it came with the laptop when i bought it from Dick smith electronics. spaceman8815 (4112)
629273 2008-01-11 00:44:00 Did the laptop give the option to make a recovery DVD, some models have them on the desktop ( Icon), others have a hidden partition which contains the recovery ISO. wainuitech (129)

You said I installed WIndows. To do that you need the CD.

Then you say I don't have the CD.

629275 2008-01-11 03:33:00 If you don;t have the restore discs that you usually have to make when you first buy it, Acer most likely will be able to send them to you for a cost. HP and others do the same. This could help you revert back to a pre-RC situation. beeswax34 (63)
629276 2008-01-11 03:45:00 Or do what i did. Connect the hdd to an IDE or sata connection on a desktop.

If the partitions are still there, find the ISO's then burn them.

Then you'll have the recovery cds/dvd's

629277 2008-01-11 04:13:00 I looked through the laptops user guide and found how to reinstall it with out the discs, Had to press alt+f10 at start up which brought up the acer eRecovery program, and from there it reinstalled.

I didn't say 'I' Installed windows vista, I said I installed sp1 RC, and when i said 'install again' it meant istall it again since it was put on the laptop by DSE.

629278 2008-01-11 04:17:00 Well now that its going, dont put SP1 on it till its released. Speedy Gonzales (78)
629279 2008-01-11 05:01:00 Well now that its going, dont put SP1 on it till its released. Correct the RC In case you don't know Spaceman - is a Release Candidate - meaning its a Beta Testing version - something you don't want to play around with unless you are prepared for it to go belly up.

I got it on a test PC in the workshop - if it goes wrong - big deal (hasn't so far), I don't care, simply reinstall again and way you go.
