| 629004 | 2008-01-10 02:48:00 | mate of mine round here last night with exactly the same scenario,xmas gift and all.Acer laptop same specs.(dual core 1.67GHz, 1GB DDR2) That you Paul?? He trying too load xp to a usb drive & boot it from there, but no go.Also tried to make a partition on HDD using Norton Partition Manager 8, wouldn't install that on internal HD. Not only that it's slow as booting & running. I said he may have to spend a few $$$ & get a new sata hdd to experiment with. |

| 629005 | 2008-01-10 02:48:00 | Looks like you may be in Luck - Here are the Acer Aspire 5310 (www.acerpanam.com) Drivers, both XP and Vista. EDITED - ALMOST - the direct link didnt work , but select From Product Line - NOTEBOOK - then Model 5310. - Search Now all you need is a legal copy of XP and product key. If you remove Vista, make sure you make a recovery DVD (s) if they were not supplied, that way if it all turns to custard, you can put Vista Back. |

| 629006 | 2008-01-10 02:54:00 | The problem you'll have is XP won't detect the SATA hard drive. Unless there is a setting in the BIOS to change SATA to IDE mode (or similar). |

I have two Acer laptops, my Mum & Dad have one each - All work great and have never had a problem. I used to work in an authorised Acer repair centre (before they consolidated all to the main centres) and we also repaired other brands. We actually had less Acers in for repair, than other brands, even though they were what were sold most of in the store. Other than the TM505 series, that were a complete design failure, I think they make good laptops. Not so sure about their desktops as never had much to do with them. |

| 629009 | 2008-01-10 06:23:00 | I think PCtek means Vista not the laptop itself. Altho yonks ago, I brought an Acer 486 desktop lol. Had nothing but probs with it. It spent most of the time with Acer, than it did with me lol |
