629384 2008-01-11 03:44:00 I decided to go out and by a DX10 video card. Not having $500.00 to spend on the recommended 8800GTS card recommended for Crysis I was wondering if there is any benefit to utilising 2 x 8600GTS 256mb cards together with the SLI feature? supersi (8401)
629385 2008-01-11 03:54:00 You would probably be better off buying one of the new 8800GTs rather than two 8600GTSs. CYaBro (73)
629386 2008-01-11 04:22:00 8800GT 512MB Should give satisfactory performance. Not sure about 2 8600GT's probably not as good... Agent_24 (57)
629387 2008-01-11 07:05:00 Would his single 8600GT play Crysis??

Also is 8800GT the only thing that will play the game?

629388 2008-01-11 08:02:00 8600GT can play Crysis. On low, some medium settings.

And no, 8800GT is not the only card that can play the game.

629389 2008-01-11 09:16:00 What screen resolution do you run?
The 8800GT is the best bang for buck truly DX10 capable card out there.

629390 2008-01-11 09:32:00 I have installed the Crysis demo.
I ran the settings optimizer in Crysis and it set the following spec PC at medium settings and it is a little bit clunky but not unplayable.
Frankly I wonder what the graphics look like on the bomb system??
Can I overclock CPU and GPU?

AMD 4200 x64 cpu
ANSLI8N Premium mobo
onboard sound
2 GB RAM
1 x 8600GT set at 1024 x 768 resolution
Vista Ultimate 64bit

If I had to choose between more ram, gruntier cpu or video card as I'm not a millionaire. What would be the best investment?

629391 2008-01-11 10:07:00 Gruntier video card. I'd get an 8800GT and play Crysis on medium/high. qazwsxokmijn (102)
629392 2008-01-11 10:27:00 So how many games will be out there soon that just wont run so hot on 8600GT??? Is it heaps, or are people getting the 8800GT unneccessarily?? I am still learning about graphics cards as I have had my first non integrated one in for about a week (thanks to help from the good people around here). RusEvo (3572)
629393 2008-01-11 20:55:00 It is a worry that many of the new DX10 games will need a top of the line graphics card costing at least $500.00 to run well.
On medium, I still think the graphics for Crysis are quite ordinary, I was expecting an improvement from DX9 but really can't see one.
