| 630223 | 2008-01-14 20:36:00 | Hi: I have `inherited` a Toshiba Satellite, 15.4" widescreen A70 laptop, from a son who has upgraded. It is P4, 3.46ghz. 1G ram, 60g HDD. Problem is that anything on screen which sould appear as circular actually appears as slightly ovalised. Likewise, objects which appear normal on a CRT or desktop LCD screen show up differently. eg: a car for instance, will appear as slightly squashed and slightly elongated. I suspect there is a setting to change somewhere but darned if I know where. Can`t find anything relevant on the Toshiba website either. Any ideas anyone? |

| 630224 | 2008-01-14 20:38:00 | Check the bios. There is a setting do with stretching the display if the resolution is smaller. Press 'F2' at startup to enter it. |

| 630225 | 2008-01-14 21:00:00 | Seen that same problem on several PC's that have the wrong resolution, esp on Vista. One of My XP's did that when I changed to a wide screen - Right click the desktop/ properties/Setting tab, the have a play with the screen resolution, usually if its set to its native size objects will look correct. Then you can fiddle with the sizing of Icons etc |

| 630226 | 2008-01-14 22:34:00 | Hi Again: In the `paperwork` the native screen resolution is, supposedly, 1280 x 800. However, under `display properties` the highest the resolution will go is 1024 x 768 pixels. Going into the bios I see that the option for stretching, if a lower resolution is set, is enabled. If I disable this option I get a smaller screen but the desktop objects appear normal. The problem does seem to be in the low resolution / stretching side of things. Anyone know how to enable the, supposedly,native resolution of 1280 x 800? Thanks bob doe and wainuitech for your help so far. |

| 630228 | 2008-01-14 22:46:00 | It should be working. Update the display drivers. Go to www.toshiba.com and look for support. Sometimes Toshiba can be a pain in the arse for getting drivers. Also double check that stretch display setting in the BIOS, try all possible combinations, sometimes with it on don't stretch, it will allow the res to change... |

| 630230 | 2008-01-15 21:39:00 | That did it! Downloaded and installed display drivers from Toshiba this morning. Now have shapes as they should be on desktop and native 1280 x 800 resolution. Didn`t get driver disc with computer. Son loed.st it. Been downloading as need Another problem which this has also fixed is scrolling. Previously, scrolling looked as if it was going one frame at a time. Sort of jerky. (sorry, I`m not familiar with the proper terms for this.) Now, after installing the drivers, scrolling is `smooth as` in the parlance of a much younger generation. Many thanks to all of you for your help. This really is a great facility! Cheers. Pipercub |
