629941 2008-01-13 09:10:00 Need some help here. Got neighburs computer off them re: a problem where pics wouldn't load in IE(6) when browsing. Noticed the computer has ContraVirus. So have been trying to get rid of this thing, but each time I reboot, I keep getting Xpuupdate showing i task manager and also a nice little icon that if clicked takes IE to its site

How do I get rid of this please?
I know that in 2K, XP one can run the Smitfraud fix, but it doesn't work in 98

Have tried various scans (AV, anti spyware) but this thing keeps coming back

That should do it.

629943 2008-01-13 11:29:00 There seem to be a lot of ways to delete ContraVirus from a system, none of which look particularly safe so Trojan Remover should definitely help and a scan with NOD32 after as well. beeswax34 (63)

Trojan Remover found a few extra files but was unable to do anything with them... however will re-run in safe mode after work (got no time now)

Will let yas know what happens

629945 2008-01-13 18:39:00 Scan the whole system with trojan remover as well.

You can scan like you can with an AV program.

Run my computer, right mouse on c and select scan with trojan remover

And select all options under utilities.

Or run TR and file / scan a drive/directory. Or file menu / scan for active malware.
