630274 2008-01-14 22:07:00 I am looking for a software program or hardware that would return a computer back to oem status.
For use at a backpackers.
So that it would erase any downloads, errors... that they may inflict on a computer & return it to oem status.

Any suggestions?

630275 2008-01-14 22:19:00 You can install the OS - Lets say XP.

User Name What ever you want, and activate the OS. Then make a image of the install and when required rerun the Image to return it to the original state.

If you want it right back to the person having to re - enter the user names agree to the licenses etc - exactly the same but run sysprep. installing the OS / Programs you may want - Then image the drive, Load the Image back in - when the PC Boots up and you are presented with the standard " agree to every thing", new user etc.

You can load a whole OS and programs you want, depending on the contents in about 10-15 minutes.

630276 2008-01-14 23:16:00 FYI:

Another source recommended Deep Freeze.

I had a look at it and it seems to fit the bill.

630277 2008-01-14 23:26:00 A friend of mines father ran that. His comp was amazingly fast for some pretty average specs. I'd definitely recommend that. Thebananamonkey (7741)
630278 2008-01-14 23:33:00 looks OK - the first thing that comes to mind though is if you create any thing yourself, documents etc, you better make sure its saved to another Location - other wise next boot - Its gone. wainuitech (129)
630279 2008-01-14 23:57:00 Or you could create partitions, and install this on the one that contains the OS. You can also turn it off, update/save new info, and then turn it back on for your new settings. You just have to make sure you're not complacent is all. A few hours work only to have it all disappear into the ether is frustrating. Thebananamonkey (7741)
