Just done a fresh instal of XP Home, SP2 & am now installing programmes . Get to loading Nero Premium 7 . 10 . 1 . 0 & get the following situation . Hacks me off because I've had it before with this App . Can take up to an hour to complete, yet @ times it'll be done in 20mins max
Gets to the stage after I enter License Key & the Installation Wizard window appears .
Installation 'Status"indicator is static .
HDD indicator LED not a flicker of activity shown .
Only App . running is Nero .
32 Processes
CPU Usage in Task Manager 100%

Image Name User Name CPU Mem Usuage
msiexec . exe SYSTEM 98 14,500k

Nero-7 . 10 . 1 . 0 gza 00 1,252k

msiexec . exe gza 02 22,588k

System Idle Process SYSTEM 00 16k

And there it stays .
Any advice on this jam??? would be well apprecciated !

Compaq Presario S3010AN (desktop)

AMD Athlon 2000+ 1 . 67GHZ
384MB DDR RAM . . . . . . ( 135MB available while installation supposedly happening, . . . 254MB if not)

Shutdown installation & the CPU usage stays @ 100%, msiexec . exe still @ 98% as is gza 02% . 28 processes running .

I . m posting this & Shutting down to free the CPU . . Give up trying to install Nero 'til I get some feedback on this .

630211 2008-01-14 10:48:00 Are you installing Nero from a CD or is it a downloaded file? CYaBro (73)

630213 2008-01-14 10:55:00 Have you done any Windows Updates?
You may need the latest Windows Installer for it to install correctly...

630214 2008-01-14 12:05:00 CYaBro, I'm installing from both, trying to,but giving it up as it freezes com.
I haven't done any updates yet but I do have msi3 in com that I haven't installed yet but will in a sec.
I went back to XP home as the XP Pro+ SP3 integrated I was using went screwy.I found that my Internet connection had dissappeared off screen today & any attempt to reload it with ISP install cd met all sorts of blockages.iHug tech. tried to help me set up again but i couldn't get passed the bit to choose connection method;ie dialup, broadband etc.So I threw XP Pro & reinstalled Home+SP2.
I've Googled "excessive cpu usage & got a lot of hits.Just tried one that sends me into 'START>RUN etc.no joy yet. Will try loading msi3 and see what happens. As I said before, sometimes it goes in no probs,others..??

630215 2008-01-14 15:15:00 Loaded the dammed thing! in about 10 minutes with CPU going to 100% but not staying there, varying between 30-100%.After the OS install I hadn't validated it so I did that 1st. When I tried to load Nero before I wasn't connected to the internet,(if that matters?) I loaded Win Installer 3, .NetFx3.5, IE7 & decided to get updates from www.v4 windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en and save them Locally.Saves getting them over&over.
Anyway,I don't know if my not having validated Windows or not being on the net @ time of Nero install or if any one of the "didn't haves" caused the jamming of CPU,but I'd be glad to hear any opinions/thoughts on the matter.
thanx

630216 2008-01-14 18:48:00 Well you dont have to be on the net to install Nero, if its on cd, or you've downloaded it.

I would get more ram for a start.

And as u found out SP3 was buggy. Dont bother installing this, until the RTM version is out.

630217 2008-01-15 01:01:00 Personally I have lost faith in nero after V5. The amount of problems I have had installing and updating it with XP and vista... and that is without any beta service packs.

I have gone with imageburn works without a hitch in win2k, XP & Vista.

CDBurnerXP also works well with win2k & XP but not vista.

1 It can be important to install programs in the correct sequence.
2 I have no problems [either with Windows XP or Vista Home Premium machines] when installing and subsequently using Nero 7.
3 Advice from those who do not use the program is not always impartial
