630198 2008-01-14 09:43:00 I was just looking at the thread about the Haupage 3000 TV card (which looks like a good match for my computer when two questions struck me:

1, Will a digital TV card do either terrestrial or satellite digital TV?

2, Is a Sky TV Satellite dish able to recieve free to air digital TV or is it not pointed at the correct satellite??

3, If so would my landlord mind me getting a feed off his Sky TV dish??

:p

Depends if it supports DVB-S (Sat), or DVB-T (terrestrial), or both. Look / ask before you buy it.

2, Is a Sky TV Satellite dish able to receive free to air digital TV or is it not pointed at the correct satellite??

Should do

3, If so would my landlord mind me getting a feed off his Sky TV dish??

Ask him / her, you'll soon find out. I doubt it tho. We're not your landlord.

A sky dish works perfectly.
I have two on our house (one at either end) and both pick up the Freeview channels via PC TV Card.
And because Sky and Freeview are now both on horizontal polarity you can have a Sky decoder and a Freeview device running off the same dish at the same time.
The only thing you have to know is what LNB you have on the dish (10750 or 11300 are the most common)

630202 2008-01-16 23:15:00 1. You won't need to worry about the terrestrial version of Freeview for a few months yet, as it is not slated to launch until March.
2. A Sky dish is pointed to the same satellite as Freeview, and most newer dishes (with the wider 'bit' (LNB) at the end) will work without any problems by just plugging in your decoder. If you are plugging in a Sky decoder AND Freeview decoder to the SAME satellite, then make sure you use a joiner box that will enable just one decoder to power the dish ('Power pass'). Otherwise, if both decoders are sending current to the dish, it may overload it.
