630015 2008-01-13 20:36:00 Hi.
I'm trying to use my ide drives on a sata mobo.
I've bought 2 converters but can't get them to work.
The light on their pc board lights up.
In the bios the drives aren't recognised either as sata or ide.
I get the "reboot and select proper boot device etc" message.
sata is enabled in the bios.
I've tried all possible variations of 2 drives,2 converters,2 sata inputs.
Is this possibly some sort of driver issue ?
All thoughts and theories much appreciated.

630016 2008-01-13 21:32:00 I tried these with my optical drives & had no luck whatsoever, but I understand that HDDs should work ok.

Is your BIOS set to SATA with IDE emulation (or something similar)? It should have more options than just SATA on & off.

630017 2008-01-13 22:42:00 Thanks Autechre,
Unfortunately the bios only has the 2 settings for sata devices disabled/enabled.
Is it possible that this mobo doesn't support these converters ?
Mobo is Asus M2N-MX SE.
Have reinstalled the chipset drivers.....just in case.
As another thought is there any way to get 3 ide devices running on one ide cable 2 hard drives and a dvd, logic tells me there will be major data conflict, but the same logic told me these converters would work.
Theres a fatal flaw somewhere........

630018 2008-01-14 00:35:00 Is there a key you have to press, to get into this converter's config?

Somehow, I dont think it'll be in the BIOS config.

And no, I dont think you can run 3 IDE devices from 1 IDE cable/connector.

Have you got a link to this IDE to SATA converter?

630019 2008-01-14 01:03:00 Hi Speedy,
Theres no config on the converter, very simple product.
Heres a url for it,
tinyurl.com
Figured you couldn't run 3 beasts on the ide cable but guess it never hurts to ask.
Thanks,

630020 2008-01-14 01:12:00 I would make sure the molex adapter is in properly.

They have a habit of coming out (the wires).

Are you using the power adapter on that site??

Connect a floppy power connector to this SATA adapter.

Does it appear on the post screen, after you reboot??

630021 2008-01-14 01:41:00 Hi Speedy,
Yep the molex connectors are secure.
Yes their power cables and have now tried the one from the floppy.Good thought that, one more experiment.
No drive appears in bios.
Theres always the possibility that the connections on the mobo are stuffed.
It's a new board, but I have no sata anything to plug in to test.
Is there any way to test that they are working ???
The trader says the mobo is not compliant with the converters.
It's a sata mobo and the converter supposedly outputs valid sata compliant data.
Does anyone have any idea/thoughts on this ?
