629820 2008-01-12 21:19:00 Help please. :p

I currently have a Western Digital SATA 160GB HDD installed.

I bought a new Seagate Barracuda PATA/100 650GB HDD.

My OS (winxp) is installed on my SATA HDD and my PATA/100 HDD hasn't been installed yet. pretty much in the box still.

I wanted my SATA HDD to be my Master and my PATA/100 HDD to be my Slave.

I was wondering if you can mix SATA HDD with PATA/100 HDD and if you can, if someone can guide me on what port to put it in on my motherboard.

My current motherboard is an ASUS P5LD2 with the following ports:

PRI_IDE (blue) - used up by my DVDRW and DVD-ROM

PRI_EIDE (red) - open
SEC_EIDE (red) - open

SATA 1 (red) - used by my 160gb SATA HDD
SATA 2 (red) - open

Thanks!

629821 2008-01-12 21:40:00 Just connect it to a spare port & it should work. If it doesn't, check in the bios that none of the IDE devices are set to none (should be not detected or something like that if there is nothing there - the none option disables the device) Greven (91)
629822 2008-01-13 07:12:00 The master/slave concept is only relevant for devices attached to the parallel ATA interface - you don't set up SATA with a master/slave configuration. Also since they are different interfaces, the concept does not apply across interfaces. johnd (85)
