chers what about hard drives?
Hard drive diags depend on the manufacfturer of the drive. In case you have a toshiba drive, use the IBM diagnostic, or a Quantum drive (I hope not!!) use PowerMax (Maxtor's Diagnostic).

Download the Ultimate Boot CD. (ubcd.sourceforge.net) It has every type of diagnostic on it you can think of, CPU, file system, Memory, Hard Drives...

Memtest would be considered the standard for testing memory. Its included on the Ultimate Boot Cd that Watterus mentioned.
