631241 2008-01-17 12:40:00 I jsut recently built my own computer, I noticed that in Everest Home my CPU Core #1 is never used, only core #2. My CPU is an AMD Athlon64 X2 4200+, with original heatsink. This is Windows XP SP2 (Vista style skin)

Picture of problem (img99.imageshack.us)

I'm wondering whether this is a problem.

Thanks :D

631242 2008-01-17 18:03:00 hm, do you have the installation CD for your motherboard, etc? grahic (12930)
631243 2008-01-17 19:01:00 Yes I do, and I have installed all the drivers from it.

The motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-M52S-S3P

631244 2008-01-17 19:15:00 I wouldnt worry about it.

It may depend on WHAT program you're using. On what CPU it uses.

And whether the program supports dual core.

631246 2008-01-17 19:29:00 Use the task manager for windows instead of the Everest Program. The performance Tab will show 2 graphs, 1 for each core.

Did you install the AMD dual core patch?

No I didn't install the patch, where do I get it from?

Acording to you signature you have the same GFX card as me. When you run a game, do you find the rest of the system slows down dramatically?

This (www.amd.com) is the page for the dual core optimizer and patches.....

The ATI card I have is no good for games, especially with my native res 1650x1050. It was supposed to be just a temporary card until the rebuild, however the upgrade has taken a back seat to the Plasma TV, Digi-Cam & PS2..LOL.

I now need to sell the 2nd house before I can go near the PC upgrade path!!

631249 2008-01-17 19:44:00 Which ones do I download? Netsukeninja (13296)

Maybe you haven't given it sufficient hard enough work to do. ;)

Try doing something that makes the CPU work hard, such as video encoding. If you haven't got anything to encode there are programs that will give the CPU a workout but I don't know of one to recommend at the moment.
