631143 2008-01-17 02:38:00 I have a customer with an old computer:
Dell OptiPlex G1 300L
Intel Pentium II 450Ghz

he wants to run Windows 2000 Pro.

any problems with this?

Thank you

631144 2008-01-17 03:00:00 Should work fine.

Its not as ram hungry as XP or Vista.

Hopefully, you've got the drivers for it

631146 2008-01-17 03:05:00 These maybe the drivers (support.euro.dell.com)

You could try searching for them, using the service tag, if you can find it whatever this is.

A 450 will struggle with the latest service pack and security updates, as I have tried installing on a similar system. It would be better to install on a P3 1Ghz min.

Robbyp, would you recommend not installing the service packs?
This is a low end user, only e-mails, internet banking...a few word documents...

A few yrs ago, I ran 2k SP4 and updates on a 486 lol.

It was fine.

I WOULDNT get on the net with no SP's at all.

Youre asking for trouble

If you dont want any SP's dont put it on the internet.

631151 2008-01-17 04:29:00 If you decide to get SP4, there is also a rollup (the first one MS cocked up).

There is also a 2nd rollup update, which fixed the first rollup stuff-up.

And there have been more recent updates for 2000.

631152 2008-01-17 04:40:00 Speedy,
I was going to use AutoPatcher 2000 August Core & Update releases.
Do you foresee any problems there?
