| 630524 | 2008-01-15 20:14:00 | Greetings fellow Borg. I'm trying to cleanup and optimise a Dell Inspirion 1150 laptop for a friend. Despite registry cleaning, spyware sweeps etc, it is still very very slow. I'm still running sweeps but really, I suspect the HD is just about full with photos and music. What tool can I run to check this please? |

| 630525 | 2008-01-15 20:18:00 | I would just use ccleaner to remove the temp files, and scan the registry with that. Whats it running and how much ram is in it? And how many programs are running on startup? |

System Restore, profile clutter, registry entries (which no reg cleaner ever gets completely) all slow it down. Sometimes a fresh install is the only cure. |

| 630527 | 2008-01-15 20:46:00 | I recently cleaned a friends computer with lavasofts Ad-Aware, there were a few embedded ads. Also uninstalled commercial programs that came with his PC, as they kept popping up... | kahawai chaser (3545) | ||
| 630528 | 2008-01-15 20:51:00 | If you want a tool that will tell you everything about the PC, Eset (nod32) have just come out with a new piece of software - Just tried it after being sent it by Eset (Nod32 - its on their site as well ) - Few things I didn't know about my own PC. Direct Download Link (dl2u.savefile.com) - its a zipped file, simply unzip it, run it - it will take a while if you have lots of info - and it will tell you every thing about the PC. Screen shot (www.imagef1.net.nz) - If you look under Running Processes, it tells you exactly whats running - and where Example Here (www.imagef1.net.nz) Look at the Arrow - the amount of items running in the background -- |

It used to be possible to get to this info through System Tools (W98?) but I'd forgotten how. Hmmm plenty of space. Says it is a 90GB drive which is far larger then I'd thought, and only about a third is used. I'll keep on with it but I'm suspecting a reinstall is the best answer - not a job for this amateur. |

| 630530 | 2008-01-15 21:03:00 | I'm going to update and run Spybot on it. I recall either Spyware Doctor or Spysweeper as recommended in a recent PC World - any suggestions? I notice this pc still has MS Antispyware but not Defender. |

| 630531 | 2008-01-15 21:11:00 | Run Spyware Doc ( from my sig) Spybot S&D , and Super Antispyware (www.superantispyware.com/) Those 3 combined should dig out any bugs / malware Try the System tool as well in post 5 - that will tell you exactly whats running and where - it tells you LOTS of info about the PC. - Maybe even to much. |

I'm running it on my own lappie now just to see. The Dell also overheats - closed down while running Spybot so I've lifted it up for air circulation. Its looking like a Hijack This run might be needed - getting beyond me. |
