631153 2008-01-17 04:42:00 Well should be ok, ( I never used it), but more updates came out after August. Speedy Gonzales (78)
631154 2008-01-17 04:47:00 AutoPatcher has save me heaps of download time.
I have only needed to do the update downloads 1x (win 2000 & xp) then finish off with the remaining MS updates.

Unfortunately MS closed down AutoPatcher, but I was still able to download the patches.

So, I'll do AutoPatcher then follow up with the standard MS Update.

631155 2008-01-17 04:50:00 Yup it was a good program.

I just download the updates manually, and store them on a spare partition.

Saves me getting them if I format.

631156 2008-01-17 04:52:00 Could you share with me how you download them manually.
I have only seen the ability to down load one update at a time, too much involved in that.

631157 2008-01-17 05:03:00 Well, there's 2 ways of getting them

Either check the hotfixes and security patches in add/remove programs.

Click on the link it'll take you to the site where the update is. Then download them.

Or go to the windowsupdate site scan then wait for the updates to come up..

Click on info where the + is. Then click on each update, it'll take you to the site. Then you download them.

And save them in a folder, preferably on another partition.

That way when u format, you'll still have them. And if you can figure it out slipstream them with XP / 2k / whatever OS with Nlite.

631158 2008-01-17 05:14:00 This is a low end user, only e-mails, internet banking...a few word documents...

If your user has broadband can I suggest trying Ubuntu 7.10 on this machine first.
Not only will you not have to find drivers, download, and then install them, but all the applications are supplied as well. So it's faster to setup, more secure, prettier, better support available...

631159 2008-01-17 19:19:00 With a machine of this age, drivers SHOULDN'T be an issue (I ran XP on a 1GHZ PIII with no extra drivers required after install).

2000 should run fine on it - for the record i ran XP on a 133MHz Pentium with 32MB RAM - wasn't usable but it is possible!
