2008-01-16 06:44:00 | Most distros will do that. Ubuntu 7.10 is one of the easier ones though .. possibly PCLinuxOS and Mepis too | Myth (110) | |
2008-01-16 06:53:00 | i have had major issues with ubuntu 7.10, i couldnt get the internet to work with DHCP from my router. nor would wireless work. Very frustrating. in the end i gave up, since i have no idea what i was doing. | aidanmaz (7180) | |
2008-01-16 08:04:00 | ...since i have no idea what i was doing. This is probably the cause of your major issues. Ubuntu will do these tasks easily if you know what you're doing. | Erayd (23) | |

If Ubuntu recognized your network card it should automatically acquire your network settings via DHCP. |

2008-01-16 17:06:00 | If you had a problem with Ubuntu AND IT WAS 7.10,then you could have problems with most distros. You could try again with 7.10 and let it do its own thing until the install is complete.Or try PClinuxOS gnome which is one of the most up to date with drivers etc at present. | kjaada (253) | |
2008-01-16 17:48:00 | Ubuntu doesnt like some routers, Ive found setting the DNS settings (primary and secondary) mannually in the network card Properties over comes this. | beama (111) | |
2008-01-17 00:11:00 | OK, but something to this effect will come up during the network detection process and the opertunity to enter details will be given. | kjaada (253) | |
2008-01-17 00:40:00 | the card does get a Ip address from the router, and with blindly clicking i got the gateway and dns sorted, tho i still cannot get onto the web. the addresses are correct, and a winxp machine connected to the same router is on the net (im using it this instant) 7.0.4 ubuntu worked a charm. 7.10 is like a step down i find. | aidanmaz (7180) | |
2008-01-17 01:43:00 | I find it a bit strange that you should have to click anything. If the things are correct then let it carry on. | kjaada (253) | |
