| 631920 | 2008-01-20 16:42:00 | Surfer Joe - Thanks for that link . . . seems that the performance would benefit from additional RAM . . . . I appreciate that help . Bryden If you read above (^) you'll notice that there is some grumbling about altruistic and perverted replies from Crucial . True . . they sell RAM . . but I don't feel that they are prevaricating or misleading you as to whether your system would benefit from more or in one case I have been informed that I had over-RAMd a system and I should remove 512 at least . Some MOBOs will not support a full Gig and have to be happy with 512 . It works both ways . . . and I don't think it's a conspiracy to pump your wallet and their bottom line . |

| 631921 | 2008-01-20 19:51:00 | Hi - My computer technician has said that increasing the 1GB of RAM I am running on my desktop (OS XP Home) wont improve the performance. Is this the general view please? Did you not find the replies in your previous thread on the same topic (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) to be helpful? |

| 631922 | 2008-01-20 20:09:00 | Hi - My computer technician has said that increasing the 1GB of RAM I am running on my desktop (OS XP Home) wont improve the performance. Is this the general view please? from an OS view point XP tops out at about 3.5GB of ram, in a 32bit system you should be albe to access 4GB of RAM but due to dumb design the last bit cant be accessed by XP. from a system board view point, it depends on the board, most will go to 1GB no problem , a good number will go to 2GB, only some will go above 2GB. you will need to give infomation about the exact system board have. will it make you system run better?? assuming you run apps that need a lot of RAM then it should make things a bit faster, due to reducing the need for the OS to swap. will it make you system lots faster? no. for most home users I dont bother going past 1GB of RAM unless they are gamers or doing video editing. |

| 631923 | 2008-01-22 05:41:00 | usually when you reach about 1GB of ram the speed of the computer will not be physically to much better (as opposed to going from 256 to 512 and seeing a big difference). Howver, for gaming and memory hungry processe, generally the more ram the better. | nzjab06 (101) | ||
